A free spirit with noble lineage and impeccable taste, India Hicks is as as unique as they come. This model and mama of five is the daughter of the celebrated interior designer David Hicks, the goddaughter of Prince Charles and was a bridesmaid at Princess Diana’s wedding, but India can most often be found at home in the Bahamas with the love of her life, their small tribe of minis, and plenty of entrepreneurial spark.
Her chic and breezy Bahamas-meets-Britain lifestyle is the inspiration behind her eponymous brand – a line of home goods, accessories and, most recently, a natural skincare line. We’ve been checking out the new capsule of products and falling in love.
We asked India to give us an exclusive peek inside the rituals and recipes she relies on. Get to know India (and her delightfully low-maintenance beauty routine) with our Green Goddess Guide series…
If I only have 5 minutes to get ready...
I tie my hair back and pray.
Beauty obsession of the moment:
Beautifying snack:
Super Elixir by Elle Macpherson. It’s an ideal snack if you’re trying not to guzzle chocolate. Although I’m always on for a bit of chocolate guzzling, I just try to balance it out.
Beautifying drink:
Nothing cleverer than a fresh orange juice, at the start of every day.
Can’t travel without…
My Zip Around bag. It’s a super smart wash bag with two divided sides. It’s not too large, which means I have to do a tight edit before packing.
Best beauty tip I ever learned backstage or on a shoot:
Don’t add makeup on top of makeup. Take the time to wash it off and start again, especially as you get older… be kind to your skin.
For ultra-glamorous effect:
Good hair and lots of it. Nothing sets the scene like a glorious blow dry.
Products I rely on for lips:
Our Lovely Balm – layered for the ultimate moisturizing result.
Beauty tool I can’t live without:
Cuticle clippers. I bite my cuticles. Horrible I know. It’s a stress thing, as much of my life is now fairly stressful (Will I make the flight? Will our Ambassadors make their goals this month? Will my son, Conrad, pass his math test? Will my co-owned boutique, The Sugar Mill’s on Harbour Island, Bahamas, forecasts be on target?). I bite my cuticles out of nerves.
Weirdest beauty habit:
Using oil as an eye cream.
Always in my evening clutch:
Mason and Pearson baby brush in pink (I borrow my 10 year old’s a lot).
In the shower I keep…
A super hydrating conditioner. Wesley, my fostered Bahamian son, steals it a lot of the time, especially when he is growing an afro. I encourage nice short hair for him, so that there is some left over for me.
Once a month I…
Panic that I should sift through all the bathroom shelves stuffed full of odds and ends I have accumulated over the weeks.
After a long-night or rough weekend…
Gallons of water and a fresh green juice with lots of apple and lemon to disguise that horrible grassy taste.
The product that changed my skin…
Our Unexpected Beauty Supreme Cream. It locks in moisturizer for well over 24 hours and it has a serum built in. We use organic and natural ingredients whenever possible, but at the same time, incorporate high-tech actives because let’s face it, we want some serious results.
My go-to DIY recipe or smoothie recipe:
1 large apple
2 cups baby spinach* or kale
3 sticks celery
1/2 long cucumber
2 lemons
Juice all ingredients. Enjoy!
