elle machpherson

We’re loving the ever-fabulous Elle Macpherson and all her Guest Editor insights this month. We are definitely taking a page from this supermodel’s surprisingly down-to-earth and relatable lifestyle! She’s a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl, doesn’t believe in extremes – and now, we’ve learned, views exercise not in terms of fitness but as just one component of living well all-around. Her latest venture, Welleco, is proof that she’s about the big picture and wellness on a holistic level – and her next-level green powder, Super Elixir, is proof that she’s about the small changes you can stick with in the long run.

Next time you lace up your Nikes, take a cue from Elle and get out of the gym for your sweat sesh. From hydration and workout bag essentials to what is maybe the best post-workout fuel idea we’ve ever heard, here’s how Elle’s living fit this summer and beyond…

Personal fitness tip:

I am not a gym person so I like to keep it interesting and mix it up with different activities and sport: massage, yoga, spin, run, beach boot camp, paddle board, hike, ski, swim, something different every day. Why would you exercise indoors when you can be in the fresh air outside? Fitness can also be social – I love exercising with a friend or my husband and kids so that we can catch up with each other’s news and connect emotionally.

Moment I fell in love with fitness:

I prefer wellness to fitness – this has been a philosophy in the last ten years.

Favorite workout:

I schedule my daily workouts for 8:30 a.m. after the school run. I’ll do a different sport every day if I can. I mix it up, but no matter what, I do 45 minutes of something a day. I love the outdoors. If I’m by the water, I love to paddle board, surf, swim laps or water ski. I also love to hike or run for about 45 minutes a day. Staying hydrated is so important, and I always have 16 ounces of water during my workout.

Best fitnesswear staples:

Fabletics by my friend Kate Hudson. Her fitnesswear is cool, sexy, a great fit, made from high-quality fabric and easy to put together when I am in a rush to get the kids to school before my morning workout.

Favorite hair accessories:

Mason Pearson’s Handy All Boar Bristle Hairbrush.
This iconic brush has served me well for years – the boar bristles are very similar to human hair so it doesn’t cause any damage.

Favorite workout shoes:

Hiking boots or snow boots.

Must-have gadgets:

A Bliss rotating lip scrubbing machine. It’s like a tiny Clarisonic for lips; I love soft smooth lips.

Favorite way to hydrate:

Water. I drink 3 liters a day. I always have a fresh, 16 oz water in this hydrator bottle so that it’s easy to add my daily Super Elixir, because you can never drink enough water! I also keep Dr. Sebagh Rose de Vie in my bag because my skin gets dehydrated, especially on long-haul flights.

Most unexpected item in my gym bag:

Super Elixir pH testing kit (it’s tiny) and a travel Super Elixir packet with 10 grams of powder for a portable pick-me-up.

Fave quickie workout:

An early morning beach run or swim with the dogs.

On my workout playlist…

Tame Impala (cool Aussie band), Flight Facilities, Chet Faker, San Sisco (another young Aussie band – love a girl drummer), Peking Duk and a good dose of ’70s, Bob Seger, Fleetwood Mac, John Meyer.

Favorite post-workout fuel:

I love soaked raw almonds and dark chocolate; I always keep some around the house to snack on. And I make sure to have another 1.5 liters of water between lunch and dinner. If I’m hungry or craving sugar, I’ll have another 2 teaspoons of TSE shaken in coconut water — or a Super Shake made with my new Super Elixir Nourishing Protein. It’s a super-clean, pea protein powder with Peruvian chocolate, which I love! I mix with vanilla almond or rice milk in a blender. Some of my favorite snacks are coconut (anything coconut! Fresh coconut meat if I’m in the Bahamas, or shaved ice), apples with almond butter or sashimi.

I stay inspired by...

I believe good nutrition can transform people’s lives. So much attention is around how we look, but really, we want to feel good. Feeling good on the inside is what inspires me everyday and being able to share this feeling with others through WelleCo is so rewarding.

Current mantra:

I truly believe in beauty from the inside out. Get your body functioning from a cellular level and that will iron out a lot of the issues you may think can be helped by a quick fix.

  1. I think she is great, but I also want to point out that it’s easy to say it’s all about being beautiful on the inside when you’re so beautiful on the outside. Also – as a model she’s made a VERY good living off the fact that there is so much attention around how we look (as she puts it), which seems slightly hypocritical. I find a lot of the content you post often centers around the superficial and trendiness of the wellness industry instead of real people living real lives – no expensive waters, juices, “most fashionable workout clothes” or other superficial nonsense. Eat a carrot and drink some clean, plain water. Health doesn’t have to be trendy or “fab”!
