We’re continuing our popular series with wellness expert Elissa Goodman and getting practical about one of the most talked-about problems in our country: the “Standard American Diet.” We all know that processed food, fake ingredients, and sugar-packed snacks are surefire ways to derail our good health. Elissa is sharing insights on just how bad our chemical-laden ways can really be. Stop and reflect: some call the S.A.D. diet the number one cause of cancer in our country – we owe it to ourselves to get smart and find ways to improve what we eat on a daily basis.
You can do it! Make small changes based on Elissa’s six easy ideas to overhaul your diet – you’ll be glad you did…
Is your diet killing you slowly? The American diet is riddled with pesticides, chemicals, and GMO’s that our bodies don’t know what to do with. The industries making the majority of our food are focused on their bottom line. When a corporation spends billions of dollars on creative marketing and is in cahoots with your congressional delegates, it’s no wonder we’ve become confused about what we should be eating. The American diet is filled with unhealthy fats, hormones, and chemicals created in a lab. Our bodies go into overdrive just trying to break this stuff down. This is the main cause of cancer in America.
“The food that you eat can either be the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.” -Ann Wigmore, holistic health care practitioner
6 Ways To Upgrade Your Standard American Diet
Eliminate Processed Food...
…because it is not natural to eat anything out of a box or can. Anything with ingredients you can’t pronounce or understand, don’t eat it!
Buy Organic...
…to reduce our toxic load intake – the pesticides and chemicals have adverse health affects. If you can’t afford to go completely organic, check out the yearly Environmental Working Group’s Dirty Dozen Report to find out which foods you must buy organic and which conventionally grown foods are safe to purchase.
If You Eat Meat...
…be sure it’s grass-fed, hormone and antibiotic free. Limit intake to no more than 4-6 ounces, one time a day.
Eat Your Greens...
…this means half your plate should be veggies, because they are rich in phytochemicals, vitamins, and minerals that prevent heart disease and cancer, increase your energy and provide fiber for healthy digestion.
Stop Eating So Much Sugar...
…because cancer cells feed on it! You should be eating no more than 25 grams or 6 teaspoons of sugar per day – one can of soda has 40 grams of sugar! Check out the list of hidden sugar names here.
Break From Your Status Quo...
…to educate yourself. Learn about a cleansing diet. Every week I write a new blog post about what to eat and how to live a cancer-free lifestyle. It’s a great resource to educate yourself slowly.
