    Dr. Hyman’s Wild Mushroom Saute
    Serves 4


    2 Tblsp extra virgin olive oil
    1 large shallot, finely chopped
    ¾ tsp sea salt
    10 oz. maitake or shiitake mushrooms, trimmed and cut into 1/2-inch pieces
    8 oz. oyster mushrooms, trimmed and cut into 1/2-inch pieces
    5 oz. cremini mushrooms, trimmed and cut into 1/2-inch pieces
    ¼ tsp freshley ground black pepper
    1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
    grated zest and juice of 1 lime


    Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the shallot and ¼ teaspoon of the salt. Cook until lightly browned, about 1 minute, stirring constantly.

    Add the mushrooms, the remaining ½ teaspoon salt, and the black pepper. Cook until the mushrooms are brown and tender, about 8 minutes, stirring occasionally. The natural juices from the mushrooms will release and then evaporate.

    Transfer the mushrooms to a serving platter and sprinkle with the sesame seeds, lime zest, and lime juice. Serve.

      I found the site after developing severe skin issues and from research, traced the culprit to my gut. After cleaning up my diet and beauty products choices, my skin is completely clear.

    12. I normally look to the chalkboard for any health and wellness info I need and Dr. Layman has always been an inspiration to my mom and our kitchen! We would be so grateful for his new book since we are always looking for new and healthy ways to detox through purifying foods! My mom is a 3 time Cancer survivor who just beat her most recent battle this past year. Because of that we take the maitinence of welnnes a top priority. I know it would add to our wonderfuly collection of positivity!

    15. I have been a type one diabetic for 12 years. Type one is very different from type 2, as your pancreas no longer can produce a hormone called insulin, so I now have to take it through a needle every time I eat. It is a difficult thing to deal with in daily life as my blood sugar numbers go from high to low if I don’t manage it correctly. Lately I have been going through a period in my life, as do many diabetics, where they have difficulty managing it because they feel like they have no freedom, therefore they ignore it. My blood sugar numbers have been high lately and it doesn’t help that I constantly crave sugar, and even though I have willpower and try to resist them, I cave and I don’t even give insulin for the sugar. I know that the sugar is bad for me and not giving insulin for it is even worse, but I have tried many things to kick my sugar addiction and it seems like nothing works. I would be so grateful if I won this detox cookbook so I could manage my bloodsugar better and (hopefully) kick my sugar cravings and try to get healthy again. Even if I don’t win I think I may still check out this book because it seems like something I need in my life. Thank you!!

    16. This recipe, with shallots and mushrooms combined, reminds me of what I learned from a past yoga instructor and mentor. Mushrooms and onions, when cooked and eaten together with turmeric and black pepper, help to prevent serious illness. I want to learn as much as I can about foods and their health benefits, and this book would be an excellent resource!

But, I love the work he does and his philosophy on health.
