In The Kitchen With Taylor Sterling
FOOD PHILOSOPHY IN ONE SENTENCE:
Healthy with a side of fries.
ALWAYS IN MY FRIDGE:
Fresh veggies, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, eggs, kale and fancy cheese.
7 RECIPE STAPLES ALWAYS ON HAND:
Olive oil, garlic, lemons, kale, spinach, eggs and brown rice (you can make something yummy from those all the time!).
Apples, almonds, walnuts, coconut yogurt and sour cream and onion lentil chips.
Hummus and mustard.
INGREDIENT THAT MAKES EVERYTHING TASTE BETTER:
Garlic, pepper, salt and turmeric
Nut butters, eggs, salmon and chicken.
Dark leafy greens. They’re healthy, they can be affordable and they make every meal taste great!
BEST LABEL-READING TIP:
The fewer ingredients the better. This isn’t always the case, but be weary of labels that have a giant list of things, especially things you don’t have a clue about.
MUST-HAVE PANTRY STAPLES:
Rice, pasta, crackers, Lära bars, variety of raw nuts, olive-oil chips and steel-cut oats.
CRAZIEST THING I BUY:
I probably buy too many organic foods. It can be a little expensive, but I feel it’s worth it.
SWEETS AND OTHER INDULGENCES:
When I’m being healthy, I like to make a chia seed pudding with banana, shredded coconut, walnuts and honey. Or I make a yummy grain-free muffin that is mostly almond butter. If I’m not, I love any kind of chocolate or brownies.
DAIRY OR NON-DAIRY FAVES:
If eating dairy, I love Siggi’s yogurt and drunken goat cheese from Whole Foods. If not, I like to make a coconut yogurt.
SKIP LABELS THAT READ:
High-fructose corn syrup.
Food-wise, homemade lasagna. For the kitchen, beautiful ceramic dishes.
FOR LAST-MINUTE ENTERTAINING:
If you quickly run to the store and grab pasta, ingredients for a great pasta sauce, a good bottle of wine, a few amazing cheeses, bread and chocolate, you have one great party menu!
FAVORITE PLACES TO SHOP:
Whole Foods and our local farmers’ market.
SIMPLE GO-TO RECIPE:
I love a fresh salad with every meal. You can’t go wrong with arugula, quinoa, toasted hazelnuts, sliced fennel, parmesan cheese and a homemade lemon vinaigrette!
BEST FOOD MEMORY:
At 18, I went to Italy with my parents. We met with a family that lives there, and we ate this incredibly fresh pasta outside overlooking vineyards and a pink sunset.
