guarana superfood spotlight energy supplement natural

What you need to know: Amazonian guarana is one powerful stress-buster. This jungle plant derivative is an adaptogen, which means it can help bring the body back into balance when under physical or emotional duress. Just a pinch of guarana can quicken your mental reflexes, enhance your athletic performance and increase your metabolism – which might even help you shed those stubborn holiday pounds.

Why you should try it: Let’s face it: we all need a bit of help in the energy department from time to time. Why not skip the extra cup of joe and go for a jitter-free option? While it does contain caffeine, guarana does not stress the adrenal glands – making those anxious caffeine shakes a thing of the past. Guarana’s plethora of minerals, polyphenols (powerful antioxidants), and saponins (natural antibiotics) support optimal organ health, gland function and immune system strength, which all work in tandem to offset caffeine’s otherwise negative side effects.

Let’s get together: We are always in need of new, healthy ways to stimulate our creativity, so we were thrilled to discover this all-natural alternative to our morning brew! Our favorite way to reap guarana’s benefits is by warming up Pressed Juicery’s Chocolate Almond Milk and adding a 1/2 teaspoon of Sunfire Superfood’s Guarana powder – we get the same satisfaction as a hot coffee drink, yet without the jitters and anxiety. If you are looking to make your own version at home, try the superfood-packed recipe below to help you through the 3pm slump. Did we mention it also contains cacao and maca?

TCM Note: Only purchase cold-processed guarana: the conventional version is highly heated, which damages guarana’s adaptogenic properties. Heat turns the otherwise super-powered guarana into a food that stresses the body, rather than one that supports it.

Superfood Guarana Drink
Serves 1

1 cup of warm plant milk (almond, coconut, oat, rice)
1/2 tsp guarana powder
1 tsp cacao powder
1 tsp maca powder
pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg
1 tsp raw honey, optional

Add ingredients to a multi-speed blender and blend on low.

If you do not have a blender, simply stir ingredients vigorously in a coffee mug until the powders have dissolved.
