fully raw Kristina from rawfully organic

leading the way With a contagious smile, Kristina Carrillo-Bucaram is a driving force behind the local raw movement. As the founder of Rawfully Organic – the largest raw, organic produce cooperative in the U.S. – she’s making organic produce affordable for all in her community. Starting with just twelve members in 2007, Kristina has grown the co-op to over 15,000 families in the greater Houston area, democratizing access to organic produce and providing health education in her community in the process – all without taking any profit. She’s completely dedicated to closing the gap between farm and table and helping people to connect the dots between what we eat and how we feel.

Besides being the chief goddess co-operator of Rawfully Organic, Kristina spends her time inspiring others with FullyRaw where she offers endless tips, recipes and guidance on living a healthy lifestyle – including a few eye-opening videos you cannot miss like the 30-Day Burger Experiment: Real vs. Fake Foods. Kristina is the living, breathing example of how eating raw can transform your health, so check out what she’s putting in her shopping cart…

Favorite Place to Shop:

My favorite veggie:

Kale.

Produce Shopping Tip:

Don’t be afraid of ugly produce. It’s usually the ugliest things that taste the best.

Must have munchies:

Mulberries.

Fave Condiment:

My Hot Pink Delicious Salad Dressing. It’s made of orange juice, cherry tomatoes, sesame seeds, basil, rosemary and beets.

Meat, Fish, Protein:

I am a raw vegan, so I typically only go to the produce section of the grocery store.

Best Label Reading Tip:

The best foods are grown in nature without a label.

Must have staples:

Cherry tomatoes, kale, blueberries, zucchini, any fruit in season.

Craziest thing I buy:

Dairy, non-dairy faves:

My FullyRaw Blueberry Milkshake made with my homemade almond milk, coconut water, dates, cinnamon and vanilla.

Skip labels that read:

Usually if you can’t pronounce the ingredients, that’s a bad thing.

Favorite Splurge:

Cherries, durian, jack fruit, and raspberries.

My shopping bag is:

A box of produce from Rawfully Organic.

  1. I have been following Kristina and getting organic food from her co-op for over 2 years. She is an amazing person. I don’t know how she finds the time to do all that she does and still be there to give everyone hugs at the co-op three times a week. Her positive message and personal light shines in everything she does. Thank you for featuring such an amazing woman.

  2. I am really into everything Kristian stands for, she’s a wonderful inspiration BUT her life style is very hard to follow if you’re on a tight budget. She also only seems to give her co-op as her go to which is great for people who live in Texas! I wish she would have given better tips for normal people… But happy to see a raw vegan in the spotlight!

  3. What I would love to know is how a working (9-6, getting home at 7pm) woman who lives in a poor suburb of London, UK with only access to a local Tesco is supposed to eat like this? I have no time or energy. I’ve tried to go vegan and followed exact raw vegan recipes online for a balanced diet and almost passed out in a board meeting.

I want to do this but I need some practical advice.

    • Hey Ashley – maybe you should try low fat, high carb, cooked vegan foods – things like beans, lentils, loads of rice, breads and fruits and veggies. If you’re looking for videos, check out Freelee – not everybody warms to her personality, but she’s very educational and a lot more real than Kristina.

Also, all the recipes on my website are vegan and not crazy – we’re hanging out at Avocado Please.

      Good luck xx

    • If you almost passed out than you need more calories and healthy fats. Nut butters (they can be raw), whole nuts, bananas, dates, seeds, and coconut are all great calorie laden/filling foods to supplement the salads and fruits you should be eating as well. You don’t need a specialty, all vegan grocery store to get all of your essentials for a well balanced diet, just eat more!
