Your California is showing. Designer, author and avid home cook, Nathan Turner is known for his elegant yet eclectic taste, but everything he does is tainted by the influence of his California roots. Born and raised in Northern California, Nathan now lives in Los Angeles and his signature easy-glam aesthetic shows it — as it should, according to his own design philosophy (more on that below).

We recently celebrated the launch of Nathan’s new book I Love California: Design and Entertaining the West Coast Way which showcases his personal design heritage alongside the passions that have grown with it, from exploring California roads to travel to food — the same influences that characterize his eponymous shop in Los Angeles and keep viewers addicted to watching him on the hit Bravo show Million Dollar Decorators.

Nathan’s first book Nathan Turner’s American Style: Classic Design and Effortless Entertaining (featuring a forward by India Hicks) introduced readers to his signature vibe. His new book brings the complete lifestyle in with recipes and tons of stunning photos, both of interiors and the gorgeous California surroundings.

Peek through photos from the book’s launch party at Hedley & Bennet (where caterers treated guests to recipes from Nathan’s book), co-hosted by online vintage marketplace, Chairish — shop Nathan’s chic and vintagey curation here starting May 20th. In the meantime, read below for Nathan’s answers to our fave designer interview…

Antiques and art.

Current design mantra:

Your home should reflect you. Don’t worry about trends and what is in fashion. Do what makes you happy.
