Chaga Coffee + Green Juice: What 30 Of Our Favorite People Eat For Breakfast

Raiding other people’s refrigerators is one of our favorite pastimes – and stalking what exactly they’re eating on a day-to-day basis comes in at a close second (thanks, Instagram!). With breakfast being one of our favorite meals of the day, we’re kind of obsessed with what our favorite tastemakers are tasting each morning. Some like it savory, some like it sweet – some like to sip and some like to scarf it down. One thing’s for certain: just because breakfast is touted as “the most important meal of the day” doesn’t mean that it’s one-size-fits all!

We asked some of our TCM all-stars to dish on the dish they wake up to, and we were not only inspired but surprised by some of the answers. Smoothies and avocado toast seem to be up there on this extensive list of breakfast ideas, but steamed greens and snack plates? Yes, please. From former Guest Editors Alicia Silverstone and Mindy Kaling to health pros Dr. Mark Hyman and Dr. Christy Garner, here’s how 30 of our favorite people start their morning on the right side of the, um, plate:

Alicia Silverstone

“Depends on the day, but my go-to dishes are immune boosting miso soup (The Kind Mama), steamed or blanched greens with ume vinaigrette (The Kind Diet), some kind of porridge, like sweet rice, amaranth, and apricot breakfast porridge (The Kind Mama), or mochi waffles (The Kind Diet), yum!”

Meghan Markle

Clean Cleanse vanilla shake with blueberries or an acai bowl with fresh berries, manuka honey and bee pollen (that’s my absolute favorite).”

Katie & Nathan Williams of Kinfolk

“A scone or muffin from the bakery next door, or granola and Greek yogurt with honey.”

Jenny Cooper of J.Crew

“Kale/pear/Macadamia nut smoothie”

Bri Emery & Angela Kohler of Blogshop

“Bri likes salty things and Angela likes sweets, so we can polish off a well-rounded snack plate together. We love Pressed Juicery’s Citrus 3 first thing. And morning mimosas! The students love that part.”

Samantha Wennerstrom

“Scrambled eggs and avocado toast.”

Dr. Sara Gottfried

“Start your day with a protein shake because protein calms your adrenal glands.”

Joy Cho of Oh Joy

“As a nursing mom, I’m super thirsty all the time, and have been loving Pressed Juicery’s Strawberry Apple Lime juice. Or, if I can sneak out, I’ll get a Hong Kong Milk Tea from my favorite coffee shop in Los Angeles, LaMill. It’s just down the street from me.”

Whitney Leigh Morris

“Two eggs + half an avocado.”

Hannah Skvarla of The Little Market

“ On the go. A protein shake or Greens 1.”

Blogger Sarah Yates

“I go through phases where I eat the same thing every day until I’m completely burned out. Lately, I’m loving maple granola with fresh berries and almond milk.”

Julie Macklowe of vbeaute

“I’m not usually a breakfast person. Coffee is usually breakfast enough!”

Jeweler Jennifer Fisher

“A green juice with lemon, apple, and ginger or gluten-free cinnamon raisin toast with egg whites.”

Yael Braun of FCancer

“High protein, low sugar!”

Mindy Kaling

“I don’t drink coffee, but I do try to finish a Pressed Juicery Greens 2 on the way to work every morning. If huevos rancheros are readily available, I will eat them because they’re my favorite food, but they’re not that common, thank god.”

Dr. Mark Hyman

“A smoothie.”

Nutritionist Joy McCarthy

“Changes everyday! Today I had a green juice and sheep’s milk yogurt with some live/raw sprouted granola.”

Hannah Bronfman

“An #hbsmoothie! My go-to smoothie these days is frozen banana, frozen spinach, frozen kale, Zenberry Blue, a date, vanilla, turmeric, ginger and cinnamon.”

Shea Marie of Peace Love Shea

“Always a smoothie. Acai, spinach, flax milk, blueberries, chia seeds, maca powder and a bit or natural plant protein powder.”

Nutritionist Jessica Sepel

“Superfood smoothie that usually contains greens, berries, chia seeds, protein powder, almond milk and cinnamon.”

Crosby Tailor, Model/Nutritionist

“Bulletproof Coffee has been my breakfast every morning for the last couple months and I feel amazing on it! Bulletproof is a super low mycotoxin coffee that I French press and then add to my blender with 2 tablespoons Ancient Organics ghee, 1 tablespoon Bulletproof Brain Octane Oil, a couple Chinese herbs, including chaga for immune function, and a little stevia to sweeten. I go to bed dreaming about my coffee in the a.m. It turns my brain on, gets my metabolism going, and is absolutely delicious! I highly recommend it to boost cognitive function and turn your body into a fat burning machine for the rest of the day!”

Heather Taylor

“I love a fresh smoothie – my new favorite is Coconut and Kale! I love hard boiled eggs with sea salt and avocado toast.”

McKel Hill, Nutrition Stripped

Stripped green smoothie with a straw or even in a bowl – it’s super thick, like ice cream!”

Linda Wagner, Nutritionist

“Green juice and avocado toast”

Dr. Christy Garner

“Superfood smoothie (I make mine chocolate, strawberry or pineapple coconut).”

Sophie Jaffe, Philosophie Mama

“Either a huge Philosophie superfoods smoothie, veggie scramble or oatmeal with Philosophie superfoods powder + coconut butter.”

Denley Fowlke of Sunwarrior

“One pound of fruit, and a smoothie that combines greens, maca, chia, protein, and minerals from some of my favorite supplements.”

Catherine McCord of Weelicious

“ Yogurt parfaits or oatmeal in the slow cooker that I turn on the night before”

  1. That was interesting to read, thanks! Nobody mentioned varying their breakfasts between weekdays and weekends. For me on weekdays, I like to start with a green juice and then a couple of hours later have a bunch of fruit. But on weekends I prefer an egg dish.

  2. I really enjoyed this post, too! I love seeing the variety, but also some commonalities. I alternate between wanting a sweeter breakfast (usually a large smoothie with protein and/or greens) and wanting something more savory and grounding like eggs with sprouted grain toast. I start every day with an herbal tea (ginger is a fave right now) and then a green juice. I find I have more energy if I skip caffeine entirely.

  3. I love hearing what other people have for breakfast, what a great post. I love lemon water followed by my green smoothie.
