Cut back and wind down. Minimize portions close to bedtime and cut back on caffeine and spicy foods late in the day. As bedtime nears, chamomile tea is almost instantly relaxing, and there’s good reason for that, too: it’s rich in calcium and magnesium and other trace minerals that naturally relax muscles and nerves.

STEAM IT OUT. Take a hot shower before bed to soothe your muscles and rinse yourself of the day’s stresses.

Banish the blue light. Blue or green toned lights from the TV, alarm clocks or your phone can interfere with natural melatonin production, making it harder to fall asleep and stay asleep through the night.

Experiment with aromatherapy. Scent can be a powerful motivator and can help relieve stress, promote calm or even get you in the mood. Try oils, room sprays, or candles.

Grab your coziest socks, but turn down the heat. The body drifts more easily into sleep at slightly lower temperatures, but cold hands and feet can pull you right out of a deep sleep.

Dim the lights. Not only does it help to set the mood for lovin’, but using low lighting from bedside lamps versus overhead lights creates a more calming environment.
