As a former model and current fashion pro, Candice Kumai knows that natural beauty is always in style. This wellness author, TV host – and, yes, top chef! – utilizes only the freshest, most beautifying ingredients in her concoctions, whether it be on her blog, a TV appearance, or inside the pages of her three gorgeous cookbooks, Pretty Delicious, Cook Yourself Sexy, and Clean Green Drinks.
This green goddess caught our attention recently when she joined forces with Origins, one of the first beauty brands to give a hoot about holistic products. For their recent launch of an improved version of their classic Plantscription, only the most powerful of skin-saving powerhouses nature has to offer were used: chrithmum from France, bamboo and pea from Australia, and anogeissus from Africa. Watch this video for a sneak peek of Candice’s cross-continental journey with Origins. We’re pretty well-versed with super-powered plants here at The Chalkboard and even we were surprised to see what Mother Nature has to offer across the globe! Then check out her Green Goddess Guide below to find out how she stays stunning no matter where her travels take her…
Can’t travel without…
Water in my Klean Kanteen with a wedge of fresh lemon. Or a big green juice that’s not too sweet (right before my next flight!).
In a pinch I…
Run outside for a quick walk by water, or grass and nature, just get some oxygen/fresh air. Or I call my mom. She makes me feel better and keeps me updated on the cats in California.
Obsession of the moment:
The Body Book by Cameron Diaz, Pinterest, Instagramming food pics from my new, upcoming book Clean Green Eats, and my super hot boyfriend. His style seriously slays me.
Beautifying snack/meal:
My homemade Tamari Spiced Almonds. Fuji apples are always delish. My delicious detox soup finished off with apple cider vinegar.
Beautifying drink:
Matcha Love Tea, lemon water, genmaicha tea .
For ultra-glamorous effect:
I am a fan of adding bee pollen and spirulina to my green smoothies in the morning. There are a ton of amino acids and extra antioxidants in there! I swear to you, all of the women I see who use spirulina look phenomenal.
Perfect pout:
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lip Color. Like, totally does what it says.
Beauty tool:
Eyelash curler. If I was sent to a deserted island, I would be sure to grab that. Also, Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Eye Pencil is fabulous, and it works!
Weirdest beauty habit:
I am convinced that eating dark chocolate makes you gorgeous, so I munch on it all day. I used to think that surfing made beautiful people, because every surfer in the water was like some gorgeous creature.
In the shower I keep…
My own homemade body scrub, my Clarisonic, Dr. Bronners Pure Castile Magic Soap in Lavender and Origins Ginger Burst Body Wash (smells delicious).
For glowing skin…
Umeboshi plums, daikon pickles and miso soup – all nourishing Japanese foods to keep you not only glowing and beautiful, but wise. Surround yourself with people that you absolutely love.
On little sleep I rely on…
Green Matcha Love Tea and this awesome vegetable – you may have heard of it – called kale.
On my bedside table…
A cup of lavender tea. A Perfect World Immensely Hydrating Body Lotion with White Tea, Plantscription Anti-aging Power Serum (feels amazing at night and helps my skin to hydrate in NYC!), ear plugs, an eye mask, and usually a collection of my favorite mags and books that end up in my bed. Currently: Jerusalem: A Cookbook, Brassicas, The Book, Garden & Gun Magazine, The Body Book and Elle Decor.
Once a month I…
Make sure to buy or pick flowers and put them all over my house. My mom taught me that beautiful flowers added happiness and something wonderful to the creative environment.
After a long-night or rough weekend…
I love throwing on a face mask, like this Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Face Mask, going to the spa with some girlfriends and totally detoxing while recapping on the awesome debaucherous night. I’m still a fan of debaucheries every now and then. Who wants to live a boring life?
The product that changed my skin…
I seriously think sleep, water and laying off the alcohol can do wonders for anyone’s skin! Get that solid eight hours of sleep. If you nourish your beautiful body and mind with healthy, clean foods and natural products, if you speak only beautiful things and the truth, and if you truly believe in living that beautiful life, it will all come back to you and your health.
Most treasured beauty tip…
Drinking a ton of lemon water to purify my blood. I once read a book by Phyllis A. Balch, called Prescription for Dietary Wellness: Using Foods to Heal, that completely changed my life.
Mantra:
My mantra with work and recipes: “It’s not done until it’s perfect.”
