6 surprising smoothie boosters

Frozen Cauliflower

You can’t even taste the frozen cauliflower in most smoothies and it’s an awesome booster! High in vitamin C and K, protein, magnesium, potassium, fiber, B6, folate and other vitamins and minerals, cauliflower is a powerful health-promoting addition to shakes. An important source of dietary fiber, cauliflower aids digestive health. It’s also great for heart health, helping to lower blood pressure. A good source of choline (a B vitamin), cauliflower is also wonderful for brain power, boosting cognitive function, and improving learning and memory. With potent antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents, this cruciferous crusader combats free-radical damage and encourages detoxification.

Extra-Virgin Olive Oil

A splash of cold-pressed olive oil fortifies and accents the flavor, and adds health-promoting monounsaturated fats to the blend. Great for supporting gastrointestinal, digestive, and heart health, olive oil can help regulate blood-sugar levels and lower cholesterol and blood pressure. It also has potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant power, which reduces free-radical damage. And it keeps your skin gorgeous, too.

jalapeños

Like other peppers, jalapeños are a great source of vitamin C, which helps to combat oxidative stress and boost immunity. Good amounts of vitamin A support skin and eye health, and powerful anti-inflammatory agents can help protect against disease. The capsaicin contained in peppers is a great natural pain reliever, and boosts metabolism, making jalapeños a great addition to weight loss shakes. Naturally warming, jalapeños encourage sweating, helping the body to flush out toxins.

Pomegranate Powder

This super fruit is especially high in vitamins C and K, potassium and folate. It’s also a good source of calcium, magnesium, phosphorous and important amino acids. With potent antioxidants and fiber, this booster helps support immune function, and promotes healthy skin and bones, and the development of tissues, cells, organs, and rich blood. Pomegranate powder protects against cellular damage, making it a great anti-aging supplement.

Chard

This leafy green is a great antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and detox support. Antioxidants boost heart health and regulate blood sugar. Chard is a good source of protein, calcium, iron, copper, manganese, magnesium, sodium, alkalizing chlorophyll and vitamins A, C, E and K – all of which help support bone and lung health while building healthy blood, regenerating cells, and boosting immunity.

Cayenne Pepper

This hot, ground pepper not only adds an amazing kick, it also adds powerful medicinal support. Cayenne is a fantastic addition to weight-loss shakes because it helps to burn fat. It also support heart-health, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol. One of the most powerful detox foods, cayenne neutralizes acidity and stimulates the circulatory and lymphatic systems. It also heats the body, encouraging sweating to flush out toxins. A natural prebiotic and anti-fungal agent, cayenne encourages the proliferation of beneficial bacteria for intestinal health and immunity.
