If you’ve recently completed a juice cleanse, congratulations! We know how much discipline it takes to pass on everything but juice and almond milk for a few days. Instead of re-toxing right back into your pre-cleanse ways, try this tasty, rich, and healthy chocolate detox smoothie – it feels over-indulgent, but won’t undo all the efforts you just made!
The Problem: It’s easy to go a little overboard once you’ve completed a cleanse. Wine? Yes please. Burgers? Oh, behave. Chocolate? Bring it on! However, trust us when we say that feeding your cravings right away can shock your bod and leave you feeling sick as a dog. It’s important to slowly reintroduce rich foods after cleansing so as not to shock your newly rebooted system.
The Solution: Reintroduce and re-contextualize ingredients like chocolate by including them in smoothies. Chocolate is a trigger for many people trying to focus on eating more healthfully. However, in certain forms, mainly raw cacao, chocolate offers numerous health benefits. Cacao is best known for promoting heart health. It also has been known to alleviate stress and even help some forms of mild depression. In terms of flavor, cacao pairs perfectly with nutrient-rich nut milks. It’s the perfect ingredient to mix up your standard green smoothie and get your chocolate fix all at once!
