If aromatherapy isn’t the most accessible of the alternative therapies, we don’t know what is. No one was ever intimidated by a bottle of eucalyptus oil and we have personal experience with the instant de-stressing, un-hunching effect of lavender oil. That being said, H. Gillerman Organics is in the aromatherapy business, sure, but these oils are also something so much more.

Green Goddess Guide: Hope Gillerman

Always in my evening clutch:

Ilia’s Arabian Nights Lip Gloss for easy application – no mirror needed. Flowers Lip Balm for hands, lips, hair, cuticles. 

Can’t travel without:

Hemp toothpaste and a ton of my own products truthfully: Sinus Remedy, Stress Remedy, Travel Remedy, Neroli Face Oil, Flowers Lip Balm and Flowers Face Balm, all by H. Gillerman Organics.

In a pinch I…

Use a strong red lip shade. We learned this in the ’80s – glad it is back! 

Obsession of the moment:

Bergamot and grapefruit essential oils. Also, I have been using a 100% essential oil blend as a natural deodorant. The armpit is where you can anoint lymph nodes – to cleanse and boost immune system – and is a very absorbent part of the body for essential oils. Plus, this gives you a long lasting, attractive, personal scent to boot. 

Beautifying snack/meal:

For snacks that feel like treats: dark dairy-free chocolate, fruit, and cashew milk with chia seeds and cardamom. For meal: fresh fish with greens

Beautifying drink:

Juice from grated ginger, lemon juice, and 1 drop lemon essential oil, sometimes straight up, sometimes with hot water. 

For ultra-glamorous effect:

Fresh green juice with cucumber and aloe – it’s what actors often drink before red carpet events. 

Perfect pout:

RMS Lip2Cheek Rapture – works on cheeks as well.

Once a month I…

Do a week of salt scrubbing in the shower with dead sea salt, shea, coconut oil, and essential oil blend of the moment.

After a long-night or rough weekend…

Ginger lemon juice and green smoothie (hemp seeds, bitter greens,  cider, water, cinnamon, cardamom), plus lots of green tea.

Beauty tool:

Kevin Aucoin’s eyelash curler. 

Weirdest beauty habit:

I am more of a less-is-more, keep-it-simple, keep-it-organic type than a weird type. But, big secret: I don’t use sunscreen.  Mineral foundation, hats and staying out of the sun are my way of minimizing exposure.

On my bedside table…

Most treasured beauty tip…

Using balms and oils instead of creams and lotions – I can not stress this enough. Also, when using a face oil, limit drops to 8. If more hydration and protection are needed, follow with a healing balm. And never use essential oils on your face in a dilution stronger than 1%.

Neroli oil.

On little sleep I rely on…

For glowing skin…

An anti-inflammatory diet, hydration and getting enough sleep are key, as well as exercise, deep breathing and a relaxed body style.

  2. I struggle with using clean deodorants-they don’t work like antiperspirants that affect sweat glands so profoundly that they are classified as drugs by the FDA! But Hope, you have reminded me that the lymph nodes in the armpit are indeed a very absorbent part of the body and that healthy essential oils are indeed the best choice.
