Are you drinking your collagen? Clinical studies have shown that regular consumption of high-quality collagen can actually thicken your skin, meaning you may be able to give yourself stronger, more youthful skin just by drinking your morning smoothie. And don’t even get us started on what this stuff will do for your hair.

We’ve been on to the collagen tip for a while now, but recently met the Aussie beauty behind Vida Glow and got obsessed about it. Anna Lahey’s product is single serve and flavored a million ways which means the world to us when it comes to smoothies on the road and in the office.

Here’s our favorite way to get collagen into our daily diets – the beauty smoothie. We’ve combined the mango flavored marine collagen with Vida Glow’s Beauty Blend (probiotics, cacao, chia, flax, manuka, pumpkin seed and blueberries – is this real life?!) and a slew of skin and beauty boosting ingredients you probably already have at home, including rich coconut, glow-boosting matcha and a dash of spice…

The Beauty Smoothie

Ingredients:

1 packet Mango flavored Vida Glow
1 whole fresh mango or 2 cups cubed
1 tsp matcha powder
2 cups coconut milk
2 tsp Vida Glow Beauty Blend
drizzle of maple syrup (optional)
dash cardamom

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth and enjoy!

  2. Just add 1 table spoon of grass fed Collagen Peptides or Super Collagen from Great Lakes or Vital Proteins.. Love both the brands. Your skin and hair will thank you…

  3. I just scoured their website – wayyy over priced. I am a believer of quality and not compromise when it comes to food… Even then the price is not justified.. The benefits of collagen peptides from grass fed cows has scientifically proven to work…

  4. Why is it so expensive?? Makes no sense. I use Great Lakes collagen and gelatin powders and they work great for a fraction of the price.

  7. Such vanity! Now we’re condoning factory farms and deep sea “sustainable” fishing to plump up our skin and diminish fine lines and wrinkles? I thought The Chalkboard team was all about appreciating natural beauty and not about encouraging cruel practices that impact the environment? If you think fishing can be sustainable, watch “End of the Line”. It’s depressing to learn what will be overlooked in the pursuit of “beauty”.

  8. I agree with all that’s been posted. I actually ordered some despite the price and was horrified to find out that it contains Sucralose (Splenda) a toxic substance! On the Vida Glow site they don’t list the ingredients! I thought Chalkboard was all about wellness and health and trusted the recommendation. I have an entirely different opinion of this site now. I only hope that I can get a refund now. Here are some of the side effects of Sucralose:
Early research said that sucralose passes through your GI tract undigested, so the theory was that it had little to no effect on you. But new studies show that sucralose is actually metabolized, says study coauthor Susan S. Schiffman, PhD, an adjunct professor at North Carolina State University. Enter a slew of problems, including
Reduces good gut bacteria: Sucralose alters the amount and quality of those beneficial microbes that hang out in your belly (the same ones found in yogurt) by 50% or more. “Alteration in bacterial counts is associated with weight gain and obesity,” says Dr. Schiffman.
Makes meds less effective: Sucralose limits the absorption of therapeutic drugs, such as those for cancer and heart disease, rendering them less effective.
Releases toxins: Many people bake with Splenda to reduce the calories in a recipe, but sucralose decomposes during baking, which releases potentially toxic compounds called chloroproanols.
May alter your body’s responses: Sucralose can alter insulin responses and blood sugar levels, has been associated with inflammatory bowel disease, and may even alter genes, the researchers note.

  9. Oh, what price Beauty??
I don’t support this marine collagen product derived from deep sea red snapper fish scales. Fishing is not humane, fish do feel pain, and suffocate to death, or are crushed to death being taken from the ocean, not to mention all the collateral deaths from nets. And then there’s land animal collagen from the factory farming industry, or the supposed more humane grass fed animal industry – the end of lives are the same in the great majority of animal husbandry; but there’s no need to get collagen from animal bones and tissues either, that commonly contain a concentration of toxins (not to mention inhumane or questionable manufacturing practices).
Calling this a beauty product seems an oxymoron, given the suffering that results in bringing this product to market.

There are plant based collagens that are healthier for humans and for our planet. These come from Atlantic seaweeds. As well they are rich in minerals and other nutrient essentials, and sustainably harvested. Do a search on Irish Moss. Maine Coast or Markus Products are 2 examples, both also tested for purity.
As well, Irish moss can also make great vegan desserts or vegan cheeses.

  10. How can you prove the products you love are grass fed? Do you just believe the company because they said so? Do they have pictures of the actual farms where they are sourcing from or is just some fantasy bubble you’re living in.
