Toxic Tuesday Ingredient Focus: Triclosan

WHAT IS IT? Triclosan is a synthetic “antibacterial” chemical, used mainly in antiperspirants/deodorants, cleansers, hand sanitizers, laundry detergent, facial tissues, toothpaste and antiseptics for wounds.

HEALTH RISK: The EPA registers triclosan as a pesticide and is classified as a chlorophenol – a class of chemicals suspected of causing cancer in humans. It can pass through the skin and is suspected of interfering with hormone function (endocrine disruption). Triclosan is so toxic, it is measured in parts per trillion. For example – just one drop of Triclosan in 300 Olympic-sized swimming pools can cause disruption in the body’s hormone levels! Extensive use may contribute to the presence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and can cause irritation to the skin and eyes.

SAFE ALTERNATIVE: DNA MediClear Natural Cleansing Pads contain 100% natural ingredients (no lies or cover ups) and are free of any harsh, drying chemicals. Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid are key ingredients for this natural exfoliator, which also aids in the control and maintenance of your skin’s oil and sebum production to minimize pore size. Use morning and night to cleanse the face, neck and hands.
