What you need to know: This age-old superfood continues to surprise us with its health-promoting qualities, offering the ability to improve digestion, protect against cancer and ensure a healthy pregnancy. Spinach leaves are one of the richest sources of vitamin K, essential for blood clotting and bone health, and vitamin A, which is needed for vision, a strong immune system and reproduction.

Why you should try it: Although all fruits and vegetables contain a wide range of nutrients, spinach is particularly rich. With over a dozen different flavonoid compounds, research has shown spinach to have potent anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects on the body. Studies have demonstrated its ability to slow the growth of cancer cells in the stomach and reduce the incidence of certain skin cancers.
