it’s easy for a simple craft project to spin out of control. We love a little DIY, but the struggle is real when it comes to the danger of over-embellishing!

A far cry from a pair of bedazzled jeans, this simple, adorable seashell DIY by Athena Calderone of EyeSwoon is just the type of little project that we can get behind. With only four materials total, these tiny shell candles are easy to construct, completely chic, and really fun to pour. Need to find an excuse to make the candles yourself? Pop over to our feature with Athena today on the beach and get inspired to throw your own summer soiree – rose sangria and all.

Make your own Seashell Candles

Supplies:

medium to large shells
tea light candles
a pan
pliers

Directions:

Wash the shells in warm soapy water and thoroughly dry them.

Take apart the tealight candle and remove the wick and metal plate.

Place the wax back in the metal tin without the wick and place in a pan to melt.

Once the wax is melted, use tongs or pliers to pick up the metal tin.

Place the wick and metal plate in the center of the shell and pour the hot wax into the candle. Depending on the size of your shells, you may need to use two tea-light candles worth of wax.

Let the wax harden thoroughly. Enjoy!
