NYC Bite Of The Month: Chalait Iced Matcha

LA’s got some pretty sweet eats, but when it comes to chowing down on the latest and greatest foodie finds, NYC’s got it going on. Eater Drinks editor and top foodie Kat Odell is our go-to gal when it comes to taking a bite out of The Big Apple – especially since things like cauliflower “steaks” and purple potato doughnuts have our mouths watering all the way on the opposite coast. Each month, we’ve enlisted Kat to scope out the most mind-blowing small bites from around the city (think goat milk coffee and seed crackers with squash tahini spread)…selfishly, of course, so we can live vicariously bite by bite.

This month, it’s all about the matcha. Chalait is one of Kat’s favorite midday pit stops, and after hearing about this dreamy green find, we can understand why! Get all the deets below, and be sure to steal her pro tip on your next visit to the West Village….

What I ate:

Chalait’s Iced Matcha.

Why I ate it:

Because it’s not only healthy but delicious. Especially on a hot New York day.

Why you need it:

It’s the ideal drink for warmer weather if you’re looking for an antioxidant-packed caffeine kick that’s low in calories yet totally refreshing.

How to get it:

Newbie Chalait on West 4th Street is Manhattan’s latest matcha bar, located in the West Village. The bright, adorable cafe vends a meadow of matcha-based beverages, both hot and cold, from mossy green lattes to neon chilled, frothy drinks. But here’s a protip: Chalait offers two grades of matcha – the basic entry level and ceremonial-grade. Trust me, spend the extra dollar or so and upgrade to the ceremonial matcha. It’s far sweeter in flavor, with a softer, rounder mouthfeel. Also, if you’re hungry, don’t miss the matcha custard-topped toast.
