All you need is plants. That’s the idea behind LINNE Botanicals, a new brand of wild-harvested, plant-based skincare we’re loving — both for for the pretty packaging and total transparency of what’s inside. The latter comes from obsessive sourcing and simple ingredient lists made by the line’s glowy crafter, Jenna Levine, whose idea of natural beauty is one we couldn’t agree with more.
Jenna grew up in household of medical pros, where holistic wellness was an ongoing conversation. She pursued an education in a breadth of natural healing topics, including nutrition, herbal medicine and botany. The result? A balanced blend of each influence, and eventually, a collection of potent but all-natural products with the efficacy of something lab-born.
We caught up with Jenna to talk all things beauty, from her six-point plan for perfect skin (seven points if you include a “compost facial”) to our shared obsession with beautiful meals in bowls. Grab some inspo below with her Green Goddess Guide and discover her beautifully crafted line, LINNE for yourself at The Detox Market…
Can’t travel without…
REFRESH facial mist — it’s as revitalizing as the name suggests and contains ingredients known to hydrate, calm, regenerate and protect skin cells. I like to keep a travel-kit size bottle in my purse to restore my skin on-the-go and post-flight.
In a pinch I…
Use olive oil from the kitchen as body oil, if I’m traveling without body oil, balm or lotion.
Always in my evening clutch:
Ricola herbal cough drops.
Beautifying meal:
A wide ceramic bowl filled with various things you will regularly find in my fridge, including a soft-boiled egg, roasted carrots, squash or sweet potato, avocado, homemade kraut or other pickled veggies, sprouts, spicy greens such as mizuna or mustards, seeds such as pumpkin or sesame, a squeeze of fresh lemon, a drizzle of good green olive oil, and often a smear of fermented chili paste.
Perfect pout:
For smooth lips I like to first exfoliate with LINNÉ Scrub Face Mask. I then follow with an application of SMOOTH balm. With my finger I blend in RMS lip to cheek in Illusive or Diabolique. And then, with my slightly glossy fingers, I apply a little more of the same color to my cheek for a radiant and healthy glow.
Beautifying drink:
Iced tea made from fresh or dried rose hips, hibiscus flowers and rooibos, mixed with unsweetened aloe juice and homemade ginger kombucha. Or the same tea, served hot with a dropper of schizandra berry and goji tincture, and a teaspoon of white lotus and pearl powder. In a flash: a splash of apple cider in water, and I love having rose and cucumber water ready-made in the fridge.
Obsession of the moment:
Aquatic nutrition: Quinton marine plasma shots and aphanizomenon flos-aquae (also known as blue-green algae). I specifically love the fresh-frozen organic wild-harvested E3 Live coming from Upper Klamath Lake, Oregon. With over 65 vitamins, minerals, amino acids and essential fatty acids, blue-green algae is one of the most nutrient-dense foods – and looks and tastes awesome in smoothies and nut-milks. Quinton marine plasma is also known for its superlative concentration of minerals. Shooting back a brackish vial first thing each morning is like a sip of the ocean; a revitalizing way to start the day.
For ultra-glam effect:
I love va-va-voom eye lashes and use Jane Iredale Longest Lash mascara to get the effect.
Fave Beauty tool:
A gift from my mother years ago: a dry brush for body exfoliation, increased circulation and lymphatic drainage.
Weirdest beauty habit:
I hate wasting food so if I’m cooking and something has a benefit for the skin, I’ll rub the peels on my face or blend the scraps together to make a compost facial.
In the shower I keep…
On my bedside table…
A silk eye mask, SMOOTH body balm, a novel and fresh-cut flowers.
Once a month I…
Get a massage. This month I’m trying Treatment By Lanshin.
After a long-night…
I take a long bath with lots of epsom salt, Dead Sea salt, bentonite clay and essential oils.
On little sleep I rely on…
Matcha.
The product that changed my skin…
Most treasured beauty tip…
Stop picking your face.
For glowing skin…
Exfoliate head to toe, using SCRUB on face and neck and ACTIVATE body wash neck down. Rinse (a cool rinse, if you can bear it, is great for circulation) and only barely pat dry. I like to massage SMOOTH body balm into my skin while it’s still a bit damp. This helps with absorption and locks in moisture. If I’m already dry I will sometimes mist REFRESH head to toe before applying SMOOTH. I follow with a generous facial massage using RENEW serum and REPAIR face oil.
And, of course, a diet of fresh raw and juicy veggies, probiotic fermentations, high-fiber foods, and good fats will certainly help you glow from the inside out.
My go-to smoothie recipe:
Nearly every morning my partner and I make a smoothie. The recipe shifts dependent on our needs and mood, but generally starts with a cup of fresh seasonal fruit and frozen berries.
As far as berries, I love organic blueberries, blackberries and raspberries and sometimes I splurge on sea buckthorn and wild huckleberries. I always add a splash of E3 Live, followed by a variety of nutritional powders, a heavy teaspoon each, including, but not limited to, maca, mucuna puriens, moringa, lucuma, chlorella, spirulina, acai and goji. I like to add texture and body with cocoa nibs, bee pollen and seeds like hemp and chia. I usually have homemade seed or nut milk in the fridge and I add this with coconut water and slow-infused chaga and reishi tea.
This dynamic blend of nutritionally dense and flavorful foods has replaced the need for caffeine and gives me vibrant energy throughout the day.
