Anyone familiar with Justina Blakeney’s plant-loving, award-winning design blog will find it no surprise that this leaf-loving lady’s home is a boho paradise – one she’s actually named the “jungalow.”
Justina’s work has been celebrated throughout the design world and by fashion majors from Vogue to Elle. Everything Justina touches seems to turn to Moroccan-inspired gold. We die over the charming corners of her studio, and her #FaceTheFoliage portrait series made entirely of leaves and flowers (check out her renditions of Twiggy and Liz Taylor!).
Our latest Justina obsession? The New Bohemians: Cool and Collected Homes, a showcase of creatives from coast to coast that embrace a free-spirited, no-rules lifestyle both in and out of the home. Part photo journal, part interview series, part DIY guide, and part decorating how-to, Justina’s book already has a permanent spot on our coffee table. If you’re a bohemian at heart like us, take a peek inside the jungalow with Justina for some major design inspo, including her daily must-haves and necessary distractions to keep the creative juices flowing (hint: it involves Scandal)…
Name:
Justina Blakeney
Daily necessity:
Almond milk latte and kisses from family.
To get the creative juices flowing I…
Create portraits out of leaves and flowers.
Favorite object on my desk:
A mid-century brass dish in the shape of a hand.
Favorite morning of the week:
Sunday mornings I do brunch with my family and then go to a free kid’s arts and crafts class in Barnsdall Park. After, we mosey on down to Vermont Ave, pick up flowers and produce at the farmer’s market and then make a pitstop at Skylight Books where I get all my quirky magazines that get me through the week, and read kid’s books to my daughter, Ida. It’s a perfect morning.
At 10:00 am I am usually:
At my studio answering emails. Or painting. Or shooting something pretty.
My favorite current project is:
Designing product for the Justina Blakeney Home collection launching in 2016.
My favorite paper goods:
Soundtrack in the studio:
Astrud Gilberto Pandora station.
Most common visitors:
My hubby and daughter, Ida.
The snack we always keep on hand:
Dried seaweed.
Easiest way to brighten up the space is:
Add plants.
Favorite way to spend the lunch hour:
Lunch at Sqirl.
My necessary extravagance is:
Weekly trips to the Korean spa.
My top distraction is:
Instagram, with “Scandal” coming in a close second.
Books always in studio:
My book, The New Bohemians! I’m also currently obsessed with the new Commune book and Joy’s new new book 60 Ways to Create & Give Joy, which just makes me really happy.
Organizational item I can’t live without:
The calendar app on my iPhone that notifies me 10 minutes before a meeting starts.
