Jodi Guber Brufsky knows the importance of feeling good in what you wear. Growing up in the throes of Hollywood glamour, Jodi struggled with her weight and body image for the majority of her childhood. A lightbulb went off after she learned to live a life that was right for her and her alone: loving her body wholly and completely, and dressing in a way that made it look and feel amazing. With that in mind, Jodi created a line of activewear that would inspire other women in just the same way. Beyond Yoga provides a great fit for every woman, whether size 2 or 12, with an incredible mix of staples like these incredible leggings from their Goop capsule collecion, shot earlier this year, and unexpected must-haves like this drapey tunic we’re wearing everywhere.

What caught our attention about this celeb-adored brand (Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Oprah are all big fans) is just how far “beyond” these pieces really reach. Our Beyond Yoga pieces get us out of the studio and onto the street in a flash, and remind us to celebrate our own bodies at every stage of the game.  We’re taking a peek inside Jodi’s gym bag to stir your inspiration for a balanced approach to health and happiness. Hint – it’s about loving who you are, right this very second.

Name:

Jodi Guber Brufsky.

Moment I fell in love with fitness:

I have always been a super active person, but I would have to say that back in the days of Karen Voight, I was really inspired and got hooked. I still am a dance enthusiast. I take dance with Neda Soderqvist of JAM several times a week, as well as workout with Kevin Daniels – I swear by them!!

Favorite active wear staples:

Beyond Yoga head to toe of course!

Favorite fitness footwear:

Well, since I am a yogi that would have to be my feet. Then I am a swimmer, so again my feet. But for walking I love my New Balance and for dance and training I wear either my Nike Studio Wrap shoes or my Nike Flyknits.

I stay inspired by...

Staying curious and always desiring to grow and change and be the best version of myself possible. I stay inspired by asking questions and searching for the truth.

Most unexpected item in my gym bag:

Dressy sandals for last-minute plans, as they make even the most casual outfit that much dressier.

Must-have gadgets:

Garmin Swim Watch – to push myself every time I swim. Mophie – I need to always stay connected so can’t run out of juice on my phone.I’m excited to try the LG Heart Rate Monitor Earphones, Babolat Play tennis racket, Lumo Lift posture reminder, and Neptune underwater mp3 player!

Favorite way to hydrate:

Water, straight up!

Favorite post-workout fuel:

While this may sound forced, it’s truly not. I am a regular at Maha Yoga and I am also a regular at Pressed Juicery downstairs. I like to get a Greens 2. I also like the chlorophyll water – I mix it with water, ice, lemon juice and stevia and make my healthy lemonade.

Cause I am most passionate about:

Changing the conversation around self-esteem and body image for women. It is the platform that Beyond Yoga is built on. I also support I Am That Girl and Your Voice, both of which mutually support BY’s mission.

Favorite quickie workout:

The biggest mistake people make is when they don’t have an hour, they don’t workout. Even 15 minutes can make a difference. And it is as easy as getting out and taking a brisk walk!! For good measure, you can always throw in 100 sit ups and as many push ups as you can do! (editor’s note: we agree with Jodi – here are a few 15-minute gym quickies to get you moving!)

Healthiest daily habit:

Lots and lots of water – I usually get about twelve 8-ounce glasses a day.

Personal fitness tip:

Find something you love to do and then it will stick. If you hate doing it, you won’t stay with it. I picked up tennis as it’s a social game and you can play it for many years and it’s a great workout too!

5 things on my Bucket List:

• Open several Beyond Yoga stores.
• Treat our closest friends and family to a weekend in Cabo to re-new our vows.
• Live in Europe for a year with my husband and have our friends visit all year long.
• Build Beyond Yoga into a force – a real competitor with the big boys.
• Change the conversation: Be a real contributor to changing the conversation and impacting the media to portray healthier role models.

Advice I would give my 16 year-old self:

Love who you are right now today, love all of you and be good to yourself – no deprivation, just moderation.

Current mantra:

Not a mantra per se, but my favorite quote, which is my mantra: “To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you like everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight – but never stop fighting!” -E.E. Cummings
