There are a million beauty brands out there, but very few of them skew completely non-toxic. Marissa Waller, the creator of BeauTeaBar, has gathered the best green beauty brands she’s found after a lifetime of label-reading and thrown them into one beautiful place online – along with a few crystals and teas. Sound up your alley? Right.
Marissa sees so much product we knew she’d be a perfect candidate for a little Green Goddess guidance. Her fixation with natural beauty and background in law make this beauty girl boss one we couldn’t wait to hear from. Her meticulous research skills and obsession with the world of product labeling means that each product is as clean as can be. We love her curation of trust-worthy brands, including a few we can’t find anywhere else. French makeup line Studio 78 is a MUST for natural beauty lovers and we only discovered it through BeauTeaBar! Meet Marissa below…
Can’t travel without…
I am a horribly anxious traveler so I always bring my Travel Therapy (it’s a roll on aromatherapy treatment from La Bella Figura) and my little bag of lucky and protective crystals.
In a pinch I…
Apply mascara + bronzer and run out the door.
Always in my evening clutch:
My iPhone (to fuel my obsession with Instagram), pressed powder and a bold lip color.
Obsession of the moment:
nudus lipsticks, they are simply out of this world! They offer the rich pigments and staying power of the conventional beauty brands but are formulated with hydrating oils (not to mention without the use of toxins or heavy metals), so they keep your lips nice and kissable all evening long!
Beautifying snack/meal:
In the winter, it’s roasted vegetables and quinoa, in the summer it’s a simple kale salad with lemon juice, avocado and some toasted pignoli nuts.
Beautifying drink:
Hot tea or a green juice with ginger.
For ultra-glamorous effect:
Apply red lipstick and two coats of mascara (nudus in “Revenge” is the most ravishing red you can find. Trust me!).
Perfect pout:
Gently exfoliate with a damp washcloth and apply a hydrating lip balm (for day) or a stunning lipstick (for evening).
Beauty tool:
A good foundation brush to give you the perfect canvas to build upon.
Weirdest beauty habit:
I am a total beauty hoarder. I’m actually embarrassed to let anyone in my bathroom because of the amount of products I have scattered about.
In the shower I keep…
Nothing actually (the steam and heat really ruin your products). However, in the shower I use a super hydrating conditioner (like Rare El’ements) for my fine and dehydrated hair, May Lindstrom’s Clean Dirt (for an amazing morning exfoliation that leaves your skin super soft and clear) and a simple soap or great body scrub if I’m feeling indulgent.
On my bedside table…
Inspiring books by Danielle LaPorte, Marianne Williamson and Gabby Bernstein, plus my nighttime skin ritual: La Bella Figura Decouverte Eye Serum and KYPRIS Beauty’s Moonlight Catalyst and Beauty Elixir II.
Once a month I…
Spend an hour in the bathtub catching up on my magazines.
After a long-night or rough weekend…
I love to end my weekends cooking a big meal over a glass of wine. There’s something about Sunday afternoons that beg for good company, good food and good wine.
On little sleep I rely on…
Bronzer and mascara (the real breakfast of champions).
The product that changed my skin…
May Lindstrom’s Clean Dirt was the first product to dramatically change my skin. For years I suffered with horrible breakouts and skin congestion (it was painfully embarrassing) and using that product truly changed my skin and my outlook on effective natural skin care.
Most treasured beauty tip…
Never, ever, under any circumstances go to bed without washing your face.
For glowing skin…
I adore all of my skin care products, but if you want gorgeous glowing skin you have to start inside. When I don’t drink enough water and get really indulgent with my food choices (mostly dairy and bread) then it will show up on my skin no matter what products I’m using. Once you have that under control, I suggest a quality face oil and a great serum for overnight treatments.
My go-to DIY:
Coconut oil is the best way to remove your makeup, especially stubborn eye makeup. It also works wonders on conditioning your eye lashes and hydrating your skin and hair so I use it for everything!
