A NEW YEAR. A horrible cold. Unfortunately, I have been sick for over a week with a pretty bad head cold. Stuffy noses, headaches, congestion, pressure around the eyes—you get the idea.

In an attempt to homeopathically cure our ailments, we have been making lots of homemade chicken broth, drinking tons of fluids, and getting some rest. One of the things that is really helping us feel better is a homemade Ginger Root Tea. Very simple to make and quite addictive once you start drinking it, and the heat from those Habanero peppers really clears out your sinuses, and adds a kick to this delicious brew.

Simple + Spicy Ginger Root Hot Tea

2-inch piece of ginger root, peeled and chopped
1 whole lemon
1 Habanero Pepper (careful, this pepper is very hot)
6 cups water

Place chopped ginger root and water in a pot. Bring to a boil, then simmer until you can smell the ginger. Mix in the juice of a whole lemon and a bit of honey. Slowly add a few thin slices of the pepper to the simmering tea. Habanero peppers are very hot so keep tasting the tea until you are at a heat level you are happy with. Make sure to wash your hands after touching the pepper. Let everything simmer for 5-10 minutes. Strain the liquid into your teapot. Enjoy and feel better!
