We adored this piece of entertaining advice from Helen Johannesen of Helen’s Wines during our recent wine class. For those of us who are easily overwhelmed with the idea of a house full of guests or even for the seasoned pro who wants to relax their dinner party protocol this holiday season, we love Helen’s idea below:

“If entertaining overwhelms you, a very easy thing to do when you have people over is to put out a big ice bucket with a few bottles of white and rosé. Let guests serve themselves after you offer them the initial glass. Also, when you sit down for dinner, grab bottles and throw them on the table – don’t hold back! Abundance helps put people at ease.”

We couldn’t agree more and have a few suggestions on beautiful ways to make this dinner party idea work in real life…

Go Full Bar Cart | Who doesn’t love an old-fashioned bar cart? This cart provides a stylish place to display cocktail options, plus plenty of extra room for glassware and odds and ends outside the crowded kitchen.

Lay Out Giant Bowls | We love a classic ice bucket, but a big bowl of ice can look even better. A couple of large bowls filled with ice on your dining room sideboard can be decorated with branches, flowers and fruit for the ultimate home bar. Fill it with bottles of sparkling water, rosé, champagne… whatever you like!

Add A Bucket Stand | Chill a good amount of wine within easy access of standing room only guests. A great addition to a buffet, this cute stand is perfect for the self-service party Helen recommends.

DIY Water Station | With all that wine, guests will want water too. Set up a full station of infused water carafes to keep guests hydrated through the night. CHECK OUT HERE

Marble Wine Bottle Coasters | If, as Helen suggests, you throw open bottles of wine right on the dinner table, try a few marble coasters to give them a pretty place to land that won’t harm your table.
