Sponge Skincare is all about the details. From biodegradable packaging and the 30-year-old fields where all of their plants and herbs are grown to the mastic tree extract that’s used as a natural preservative, owner Markos Drokotos carefully considers every aspect of the product. It should come as no surprise, then, that each hand-blended concoction is fabricated using a slow, artisanal process that means each of their herbal and plant extracts are brimming with more vitamins and nutrients than your usual serums and creams. The resulting products are a triple threat: they smell amazing, they have their heads in the right place sustainability-wise and they are super-effective.
Sponge’s Ladi Avokanto, $100, is one of the line’s cult items—and for good reason. Its marquee ingredient is avocado oil, which is known to firm and condition skin while warding off free radicals. It’s also packed with vitamin D and E, moisturizing and nourishing skin from the inside out.
It may seem counter-intuitive to those who haven’t yet dabbled in the world of facial and body oils, but Ladi Avokanto is deeply moisturizing without being greasy. It absorbs quickly, making it an ideal base for makeup (although after a few days, you’ll probably skip the pancake). It’s also a fabulous and soothing daily moisturizer for cold, dry winter months or for plane travel. After several days of use, we found skin to be noticeably more radiant, moisturized and healthy in appearance.
