Spontaneous weekends away can be just as rejuvenating, inspiring and exciting as an extended getaway when you know where to go. Our recent trip up to Ojai with Buick’s adorable (and highway-loving) new Encore SUV got us inspired to explore other options for low-planning jaunts from LA. Take a peek at some of our favorite wellnessy weekends away below…

Editor’s Note: California’s devastating fire season means that a few of these locales are off limits or ‘research before you go’. Stay tuned after the fire dangers have passed — these neighboring areas will need that tourism love once things get back to normal!

OJAI | So close to LA we can practically taste the locally crafted wine, a weekend in Ojai will get you back to nature and the fruits of its labor.

Where to Stay: The Ojai Valley Inn is an oasis nestled into the hillside with rolling golf greens and just minutes away from town and local wineries.

Where to Eat:  Grab some good-for-your-gut probiotic coffee or jun kombucha from Revel or raw, vegan from Food Harmonics. You don’t have to look far for dinner, eat at The Oak at Ojai Inn — we recommend the truffle risotto!

Where to Shop: Summer Camp, Modern Folk, and In The Field are the places to shop if you are looking for serious small town charm. Find handmade ceramics and other local goods.

Santa BarbaraSANTA BARBARA | If you’re craving beach town vibes with a hint of luxury, look no further than this classic locale for an easy weekend away from LA.

Where to Stay: Stay at the Bacara Resort or the Four Seasons for the ultimate beachside vacay. Both are inches away from the ocean — you’ll never want to leave!

Where to Eat: Grab some casual vegan grub at Mesa Verde for lunch and a cozy farm-to-table meal from Somerset for dinner.

What to Do: The ocean and the mountains are right at your fingertips, so get out and enjoy the outdoors! Go for a hike or take a night to glamp with AutoCamp.

things to do in palm springs with kids crafting communityPALM SPRINGS | More than just for Coachella spill-over, posting up in this cozy desert town is just what the doctor ordered after a long week of work.

Where to Stay: The Ace Hotel in Palm Springs is a mid-century modern gem.  Get an all natural treatment at their Feel Good Spa and sunbathe at their iconic pool.

Where to Eat: Cheeky’s is known for their fun, family breakfasts. They have great farm-to-table food, acai bowls, and even flights of bacon.

What to Do: Calling all succulent obsessed! Shop at the Cactarium for the ultimate cactus experience, visit the Palm Springs Art Museum, and take a ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.

RANCHO Valencia | Hidden just inland from San Diego’s gorgeous coastline, Rancho Valencia is classic California through and through.

Where to Stay:  Stay in an adobe style bungalow with private terrace, fireplace and hottub. Wake up every morning to freshly squeeze juices from the inn’s own orchards.
What To Do: We never left the sprawling property with citrus groves, small, luxe pools and an incredible holistic spa. Take the quiz to learn what we learned.

Weekends AwayMALIBU | Yes, Malibu is just one town up the coast from home, but a staycation in this stunning ocean-side city can be as magical as a jaunt across the globe.

Where to Stay: The Surfrider Malibu has some serious vintage charm! Lounge on their rooftop deck with views of the Malibu pier and sip on Canyon Coffee (we’re hooked).

Where to Eat: Go for the views. Try Malibu Farms for a healthy brunch and bonus, it’s just inches away from the water. Feeling real indulgent? Go to Nobu from some world-class sushi and some dreamy ocean ambiance.

What to Do: Take a hike on one of Malibu’s iconic trails, learn to surf or paddle board at Malibu’s Surfrider beach and find the perfect, one-of-a-kind souvenir from Earth + Element.
