How are your home bartending skills? Every great hostess should have a few killer cocktail-making moves up her sleeve and lately ours are lacking. We were overjoyed when Rachel Mae Furman of Smoke And Honey broke out her magic formula for these perfect, easy, make-ahead cocktails at last week’s power hour, and knew we had to have her share her winning combo with readers.

In single-serve bottles, Rachel combined her no-fail ratio of spirit, bubbles, juice – genius! One ounce spirit, one ounce bubbles, and two to three ounces fresh-pressed juice – just three ingredients and you’ve got combo after combo of artisanal imbibements (Tequila! Ginger kombuchaRoots 3!) that are as easy to make as they are on the eyes! Shaken or stirred, these combos give a whole new meaning to the word “threesome.” Here’s Rachel with a few pro tips…

It’s easy to make fresh cocktails for a happy hour or a meeting – the key is a little preparation. The cocktail doesn’t have to be complicated if the presentation can provide the “wow” factor.

For a healthy cocktail option, I use an easy template of “Spirit + Juice + Bubbles.” Before the gathering, I pour all three ingredients in mini glass bottles with a funnel, cap it off right away to hold in the carbonation, then keep refrigerated until guests arrive. When the party starts, the guests can simply pour their pre-made cocktails over ice, so it leaves the hostess free to mingle.

Some tips to remember for a healthy happy hour:

Prep ahead of time. You’ll probably be coming right from a busy day at work, so save time by pre-batching the cocktails that morning.

Keep the alcohol content low. Since this is probably your pre-game before plans later, pace yourself by using only 1 oz. of a hard liquor, or consider a low-proof liqueur instead.

Use Fresh Pressed-Juice. Avoid high sugar simple syrups and instead use natural fruit juices to sweeten your cocktail, such as apple juice, strawberry juice and coconut water. The juicer has already done the mixology for you!
