Superfood Spotlight: The Health Benefits of Chlorella

Chlorella is well known in Japan for its ability to detoxify the body of heavy metals and pesticides. It is a green algae that acts as a drawing formula that will gather heavy metals and mercury in the bloodstream and digestive tract. It is almost next to impossible to take too much of chlorella as it is very much a food. Clean blood insures that metabolic wastes are efficiently carried away from the tissues.

Chlorella contains more chlorophyll per gram than any other plant. Chlorophyll is similar in structure to hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells. Therefore it is excellent at fighting anemia and building more red blood cells. Additionally, chlorella is excellent at combating bad breath since it’s rich chlorophyll content assists in digestion.
Good tips when choosing chlorella include choosing non-pasteurized brands which have not been freeze-dried.  This will ensure that you don’t lose the chlorophyllase and pepsin, two amazing digestive enzymes naturally occurring in chlorella. Finally, pick broken cell walled chlorella as it allows for easier assimilation of active nutrients.
