Superfood Spotlight: Bentonite Clay - The Chalkboard
8.29.12

Hello My Name Is: Bentonite Clay

So, Tell Us About Yourself: Bentonite Clay is a cleanser & detoxifier that has been used since ancient Mesopotamia. This clay is quite powerful when used internally & externally. Bentonite clay is highly absorbent, negatively charged and is able to absorb positively- charged bacteria such as worms, germs and heavy metals from the colon. It is eliminated with whatever is trapped. Moreover, it’s a powerful topical cleanser that is excellent at removing blackheads and pulling other surface debris from the epidermis.

What Do You Bring To The Plate: Some of the benefits of bentonite clay include a clear complexion, brightening of the eyes, regulation of bowel movements and calming of acne, rosacea and other skin infections. It attracts and binds heavy metals from the intestines.

Let’s Get Together:

Internally: The Clay Detox

1. I mix one teaspoon of powdered calcium bentonite in 10 ounces of filtered water.

2. Take mixture first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and at least one hour before eating.

3. Drink at least eight glasses of water throughout the day to help with digestion of the clay.

5. This detoxification can be done from 2 weeks up to 6 months. But it suggested to do the detox for at least 3 weeks to reap the benefits.

Externally: Classic Clay Mask

Make a mask of 1 tablespoon of clay powder, 1 teaspoon of oatmeal, 1 tablespoon distilled water, 2-3 drops of tea tree, calendula, or evening primrose oil and wear 10 minutes. Wipe skin clean with warm water and washcloth.
