Healthful eating can be confusing these days, but seeing other’s routines in real life can help cut through the overwhelm and make sense of it all. We’re raiding Philosophie owner and yogi extraordinaire, Sophie Jaffe’s kitchen next in our series of kitchen exposés. (Get a glimpse inside the fridge of a holistic nutritionist and gut health guru too.)

We’re legitimately obsessed with this yogi’s line of superfood coconut butters and protein blends and knew her pantry would be full of the stuff (the dream!). Check out what else this healthy mama is stocking up on and enjoy a look at a morning with Sophie and her mini’s when you’re done. Whose fridge should we raid next?

ALWAYS IN MY FRIDGE:

Kimchi, pasture-raised eggs, fresh juice, fresh veggies and hummus for snacking.

7 RECIPE STAPLES ALWAYS ON HAND:

Brown rice or quinoa, cauliflower rice from Trader Joes, meatless meatballs from Gardein, zucchini for zoodles, homemade bone broth, sweet potatoes and tahini.

MUST HAVE MUNCHIES:

Raw/dark chocolate, nut butters in lots of flavas, Bamba (israeli peanut snack) and vegan + gluten-free ice cream.

FAVE CONDIMENTS:

Homemade mayo, Barleans mango-peach fish oil (I use as a dressing on salads!).

GO-TO PROTEINS:

Eggs, tempeh, Philosophie superfood protein powders and salmon.

BEST BARGAIN:

Buying quinoa in bulk and making my own bone broth.

BEST LABEL-READING TIP:

Minimal ingredients you can pronounce. Period.

FAVE VEGGIE + WHAT YOU MAKE WITH IT:

Kabocha squash is one of my loves! I simply slice the squash, slather in coconut oil, season with salt, pepper, and Philosophie Green Dream Superfood + Protein Blend, and roast for 30 minutes until golden.

MUST-HAVE PANTRY STAPLES:

Gluten-free crackers in lots of varieties, dried seaweed, full fat coconut milk, healthy cereals and granolas for my kids, golden berries, gluten-free pasta

CRAZIEST THING I BUY:

Erewhon superfood “ice cream” for my 4 and 6 year olds. My husband will walk out of the store if he’s with us because he refuses to acknowledge.

SWEETS AND OTHER INDULGENCES:

This is a big one for me. I LOVE healthier sweets because I have a big sweet tooth. My freezer is always stocked with 8-10 sorbets, vegan ice creams, raw chocolates, etc. If it’s not stocked with these items, I WILL find other unhealthier options so it’s vital I’m fully stocked with better choices.

DAIRY OR NON-DAIRY FAVES:

Love Califia Farms creamer and their pumpkin spice cold brew.

SKIP LABELS THAT READ:

Anything you can’t pronounce. Caragageen.

FAVORITE SPLURGE:

A good bottle of sparkling rośe.

MY SHOPPING BAG IS:

This is a serious problem. I easily have 75 canvas bags in my garbage. Slight hoarder situation.

FOR LAST MINUTE ENTERTAINING:

A good bottle of wine, a huge salad, a grilled fish, and/or gluten-free pasta with a simple homemade sauce, good cheese with delicious crackers, and fresh bread picked up from the corner bakery.

SIMPLE GO TO RECIPE:

Veggie curry! Full fat coconut milk, whatever root veggies are in the fridge, garlic, turmeric powder, curry powder, salt, pepper and boom! Let simmer, add brown rice, quinoa, or cauliflower rice, and you have a delicious, wholesome dinner!

FAVE PLACES TO SHOP:

Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, Erewhon (but not often, it’s very overpriced!), farmers markets…

BEST SHOPPING TIPS:

I shop for a family of four, plus a live-in assistant (so actually 5), so I really need to shop on a budget and in bulk. I shop the bulk bins at Sprouts and Trader Joes and then get local produce at the farmers markets. I stock up on larger cases online on sites like vitacost.com or thrive.com (where we also sell Philosophie superfood honey!).

  1. I think she means “Carrageenan” not “Caragageen”. She always mispronounces this on her videos. Not a troll just wanted to point out if this is what you do for a living please fact check and do not spread false information. Also TCM you could have fact-checked this as well 🙂
