We’ve been fans of Aussie fitnessista Lorna Jane Clarkson since her activewear line, aptly named Lorna Jane, first hit the states a few years back. Her motto of “Move, Nourish, Believe” has infused the brand and her team with the kind of authenticity, hope, and inspiration to live your best life that we love to see in a wellness brand. Her motto lets you know just the kind of genuine, personal woman Lorna strives to be (and succeeds – she’s absolutely lovely).

Lorna’s new book, Inspired, has us truly motivated. The book weaves through ideas for small, positive changes that add up over time to create a life worth living. Think fit tips that infuse joy into movement, nuggets of wisdom to propel you forward, and recipes that not only nourish your body, but your spirit too.

Read below to find out how this radiant, fit-minded Aussie stays truly nourished from the inside out – then pop over to check out her incredible banana toffee smoothie(!) that might just inspire you to look at “pre-workout fuel” in a whole new light. Here are Lorna’s balanced tips on nourishing well…

"Count" Macros, Not Calories

Macros (or macronutrients) are the proteins, fats and carbohydrates that make up the food we eat. So when I say ‘count them’ it’s more about being aware; if you had a high-carb breakfast of oats and fruit in the morning, then be sure to get some proteins and fats into your meals for the rest of the day – simple really!

Ditch Dieting + Write Your Own Rules

We inherently know what our bodies need, we just need to honor ourselves and create our own rules based on how we want to live our lives. Food is your friend, so choose foods that make you feel amazing and complement your lifestyle.

Miss it? Then Swap It

So you feel like you’re missing out on all the fun by deciding to eat well? Why not find healthy alternatives for all of your unhealthy cravings and learn to look forward to guilt-free treats that nourish your body? Some of my favorites are: dates instead of candy, blended frozen banana instead of ice-cream and baked sweet potato chips instead of fries.

Hydrate

We know you’re sick of hearing the two-liters-a-day thing! But the truth is, water makes you gorgeous! It moisturizes and hydrates your skin, is essential for maintaining your skin’s elasticity, keeps your digestion and metabolism working properly and would have to be the best and purest weight-loss tool on the planet – so drink up!

Attack Snacking

Eating a little less on a more regular basis (every 3-4 hours) boosts your metabolism, keeps you focused, puts your body into fat-burning mode and helps keep those pesky sugar cravings at bay.

Chew, Chew, Chew

I know it can be difficult at times, but make it a rule to sit down and savor your food whenever possible. If you can, chew each mouthful 15 – 20 times to improve digestion, increase nutritional uptake and savor and enjoy your delicious meal.

  3. Hydrate Hydrate! I’ve been drinking a pint of water first thing upon waking up in the morning and it has made drastic improvements in my overall health. I also try to drink 3/4 of a gallon of water throughout the day 🙂

  4. 2 liters a day? I do not think it really help you to burn fat (I am a man), but maybe doing it in complex help to lose fat)) Personally I drink 3 liters of water every day and do not loss fat))
