It’s an untested theory, but we’re pretty sure a good chunk of TCM readers anticipated the start of Big Little Lies season two on HBO last week as much as we did. Because women. Because design. And because its staged close to Big Sur, California’s eco-loving epicenter.
We couldn’t help ourselves but dole these little wellness tips for each of the fictional ‘Monterey five’ characters of Big Little Lies. An exception? Bonnie, as played by Zoe Kravitz, who we’d actually like to invite to be an editor-at-large.
Her are our tips for Renata and Celeste — in real life, we’re pretty sure Laura Dern and Nicole Kidman know exactly what they’re doing…
Mary Louise (Meryl Streep) | No one needs a strong CBD tincture like the newly introduced – and hotly anticipated – character of Mary Louise this season. Primal screaming (spoiler alert!) may be healthy for the soul, but we also think a super strong CBD tincture like this one from Standard Dose could help to ease ML’s stress levels in a major way. If you haven’t heard, CBD works with the body’s innate cannabinoid system and nervous system to create a deep sense of calm without drowsiness (so you can still watch your twin grandsons without fear). Renata (Laura Dern) | Every high-powered CEO we know is experimenting with nootropics. Nootropics – sometimes called smart drugs – are compounds that enhance brain function. They sometimes include the micro-dosing of drugs we never considered wellness-related til recently — a topic food god, Michael Pollan spoke to recently. Renata needs to stay sane and she needs to stay on her A-game. A little l-theanine with her morning americano may be just what she needs. | READ MORE
Celeste (Nicole kidman) | The practice of EFT tapping is so simple that the powerful practice’s results for overcoming trauma are almost shocking. Celeste has been through a lot. We’ve explored the trauma recovery tool and are certain there are deep benefits for those that need it. | READ MORE
Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) | Adaptogens are a class of herbs that help us to deal with stress. More specifically, they help us to adapt. While Witherspoon’s character, Madeline is always ready to go to war for the things she cares about, we feel she could use the power of adaptogens to super-charge her ability to adapt, deal with stress and conquer potential life changes. | CHECK OUT
Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) | We’ve got nothing on Bonnie. She already gets it. Between her commitment to that yoga body, insistence on clean eating in the family kitchen and mature communication habits, we’d like Bonnie’s advice for ourselves. Stay tuned — maybe things go in another direction this season, in which case, we’ll be ready to prep Bonnie with all the support we can. | READ MORE
JanE (Shailene Woodley) | Single moms are short on time, long on hours. We love the practical magic of yoga nidra for power-napping on a whole other level. Daring To Rest is every mom’s ultimate need-to-read. Jane also loves to run on the beach – we might recommend adding some surprisingly powerful breathwork to her routine. | READ MORE
