whole foods price drop

Everyone knows that Amazon bought Whole Foods this summer. If you’re anything like us, you’ve already got bets going on how quickly you’ll be ordering extra quinoa from the salad bar online or shopping with the robots who take over the grocery store.

Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods Market is official on August 28th — that’s this Monday. With the big transition comes “lower prices”, according to a Whole Foods press release, on over a dozen products.

We feel as though they read our personal weekly grocery list to select their list of price drops. Here are the twelve they named:

Whole Trade bananas | Organic avocados | Organic large brown eggs | Organic responsibly-farmed salmon and tilapia | Organic baby kale and baby lettuce | Animal-welfare-rated 85% lean ground beef | Creamy and crunchy almond butter | Organic Gala and Fuji apples | Organic rotisserie chicken | 365 Everyday Value organic butter

There are a few other easy to swallow, non-robot related items listed in the acquisition press release. Things like Amazon Prime benefits inside Whole Foods stores and Amazon Lockers in select stores. One thing is for sure, narratives like ones in our article here may quickly become a thing of the past.

What do you think of all this grocery store news? Great for expanding the accessibility of healthy foods? Or bad for the diversity of our healthy shopping options? Let us know what you’ve been thinking about with all the Whole Foods news…
