We’ve loved watching the natural beauty scene blossom; incredible brands like W3ll People and Odacité not only give green beauty a good name but a bright future we can be excited about. We’re meeting a few founders of these pioneering brands later this month at an exclusive beauty gathering at The Detox Market. Learn how to join us below!

To celebrate the gathering, we asked Shirley Pinkson, co-founder and chief makeup artist behind W3ll People, and Valérie Grandury, the skincare guru behind Odacité to answer our Green Goddess Guide Q+A (find all our Green Goddess Guides here!). Between these two pros, we’ve got skincare and makeup covered A to Z. Read on for both women’s perspectives on natural beauty, from unexpected ways to whiten teeth to the low-down on blue lashes…

Still have more beauty questions? Meet these two inspiring makers later this month as they co-host an exclusive gathering inside The Detox Market that you won’t want to miss. Event details below!

Can’t travel without…

Shirley: My Bio Correct Concealer to instantly combat the fatiguing effects of travel on my complexion. And green tea sachets… for my eyes! The green tea not only acts as my afternoon anti-oxidant boost, it calms and de-puffs my eyes. I simply place the used tea bag on my eyes and put my feet up!

Valérie: 15% vitamin C serum, An Autumn on The World by Odacité.

In a pinch I…

Shirley: Mix my Altruist Mineral Foundation with Odacité’s Acai Rose concentrate. Together they create a glow and moisture-driven foundation. Best part: No brushes needed!

Valérie: Probiotics by Moon Juice.

Always in my evening clutch:

Shirley: I turn my glow on and up with the Bio Brightener Stick and amplify my lip with my Nudist 2 in a rich, transparent fig.

Valérie: Ilia Arabian Knight.

Obsession of the moment:

Shirley: Blue lashes. Our Expressionist Pro Mascara in Blue is everything. It brightens my eyes and my outlook.

Valérie: I spend so much time on planes, Tension Remedy by Hope Gillerman is my neck savior.

Favorite beautifying food:

Shirley: A handful of almonds.

Valérie: Chia seeds.

Beautifying drink:

Shirley: A cup of matcha tea boosted with Sun Potion’s He Shou Wu beauty tonic.

Valérie: A glass of wheatgrass juice.

For ultra-glamorous effect:

Shirley: Intensify your eyeliner and amplify your mascara.

Valérie: Radiance Highlighter by Kjaer Weis.

Perfect pout:

Shirley: This summer I have found myself donning a youthful, juicy citrus pout, layering Nudist 1 and the Bio Extreme Lip Gloss in Gold.

Valérie: Ilia lipsticks.

Beauty tool:

Shirley: My hands… nothing can warm color into the complexion better.

Valérie: Eyebrow-defining brush by EcoBrow.

Weirdest beauty habit:

Shirley: Once or twice a week I ‘swish’ with activated charcoal and water to whiten and brighten my smile. The process is far from pretty, but oh so effective!

Valérie: Head stand.

In the shower I keep…

Shirley: Organic, unrefined coconut oil and my One Love Organics charcoal face sponge.
Valérie: Rare Elements conditioner.

On my bedside table…

Shirley: Is an aromatherapy wonderland (thanks to H. Gillerman) + Osmia Lip Doctor and a rose quartz crystal.

Valérie: Hand and Heel Therapy by Odacité.

Once a month I…

Shirley: Pledge to enjoy exercise.

Valérie: Eat oysters.

After a long-night or rough weekend…

Shirley: I start the morning with a fresh lemon and apple-cider vinegar cocktail.

Valérie: I juice.

On little sleep I rely on…

Shirley: Breathing. Deep. When sleep deprived, we all can be easily triggered or frustrated. For me, breathing exercises keep me focused. I couple them with a quick, brisk walk outdoors for superior rejuvenation.

Valérie: My hangover Serum Concentrate Pf+O.

A product that changed my skin:

Shirley: Vitamin C. Topically applied, vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) in a percentage of 12% or higher. Marie Veronique’s Vitamins C+E+Ferulic Serum is my morning go to. Everyday.

Valérie: Facial oils.

Most treasured beauty tip:

Shirley: Own your beauty. It hasn’t always been easy to ‘own’ my personal beauty. I am a gorgeously curvy woman in the beauty industry. When my confidence waivers, I remind myself to ‘own it!’ We are all uniquely beautiful. Embrace that and let yourself shine.

Valérie: Facial oils, again.

Best tip for glowing skin:

Shirley: I sleep.

Valérie: Regular exfoliation.

My go-to DIY recipe or smoothie recipe:

Shirley: Almond milk, almond butter, kale, a banana, maca, chia, matcha, and frozen cherries.

Valérie: Fresh-squeezed orange juice, frozen mangoes and as much baby spinach as possible.

  2. Valerie is a treasure. I love the Odacite line. I use the serums oils and moisturizers daily and have really noticed a difference in my skin. Detox Market is worth a visit if you are in Los Angeles. They have so many different natural products to explore.
I haven’t had a chance to try out W3ll peoples line. I will have to next time I’m in Detox Market.
