It’s getting down to the wire – in just over one week, we’ll be gathering with beauty mavens from around the globe for the second annual A Night For Green Beauty shopping event! Last year’s event brought together some of our all-time favorite natural skin care and beauty brands for a night of green bonding, shopping and juice cocktail-guzzling in New York. This year, the gathering is right here in LA and includes even more new and up-and-coming beauty brands.

Canadian brand Province Apothecary is one of this year’s brands and, true to their name, Province Apothecary sources all its organic ingredients from each of the Canadian Provinces – from British Colombia glacial clay to Nova Scotian seaweed. Founder Julie Clark is a holistic health practitioner and aromatherapist passionate about hand-crafting her plant-based products, keeping them free of synthetics and toxins for radiance from the inside out. Julie’s fruit mask recipe is made with ingredients ideal for happy, hot-weather skin…

This is my favorite summer mask. It makes me feel like I am on a tropical island even though I live in Toronto. I also love making this mask for clients who have congestion in their skin – black heads, small bumps around their jaw line or on their forehead, papules, and/or zits. The fruit acid mask will help it all and it’s great for every skin type. You can also blend these fruits for your morning smoothie and your mask. I love multi-tasking like this!

Here are the facts:

Papaya and pineapple are a great source of papain, bromelain, vitamin A, and alpha hydroxy acid. Papaya and pineapple help to break down inactive proteins, remove dead skin, digest impurities in your skin’s cells, and prevent clogged pores, making papaya + pineapple an effective, natural way to reduce blemishes.

Strawberries contain high concentrations of alpha-hydroxyl acid. Strawberries clear dead skin cells, lighten blemishes, reduce the appearance of pimple scars, brighten your skin tone, deep-cleanse your pores, and eliminate excess oil. Strawberries also contain salicylic acid, which clears dead cells and inhibits the growth of those annoying blackheads.

Honey is a natural antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial, making it an effective, natural way to fight acne and blemishes. Honey has the unique ability to retain the skin’s moisture as well as absorb impurities from your pores, working to cleanse and gently exfoliate your pores.

Yogurt is cleansing, toning, calming, and cooling. It is mild enough to use on sensitive, dry skin. Yogurt’s rich zinc content soothes inflammation, clears blemishes, reduces redness, and shrinks your pores. Yogurt’s lactic acid is a natural skin softener and exfoliator (it acts as a gentle alpha hydroxy acid) that will restore your skin to its natural acid pH level. The regular application of yogurt also noticeably diminishes dark spots and acne scars and brightens the skin’s complexion. Always use plain yogurt because its benefits are from the good bacteria only found in natural yogurt.

Province Apothecary’s Regenerating + Stimulating Exfoliator is a great base for masks because it works on all skin types. Province Apothecary’s exfoliator unclogs pores and removes dead skin build up. Oatmeal calms and nourishes the skin and green tea stimulates and rejuvenates skin, giving you a beautiful glow.

  1. How can we make this without that exfoliator? Kind of takes away the ease and enjoyment of a DIY when you have to purchase a $40 product. Can we just leave it out completely?

    • PA products are amazing and worth every penny! But if you are budget conscious, try using a homemade oat flour exfoliator instead. I grind up whole oats with flax seed and dried chamomile in a coffee grinder and store it in a jar. It keeps for months and is very coast effective considering these are staples in my kitchen.

      • Great exfoliator recipe Charlotte! You can use substitute any dry exfoliator in this recipe, or just use plain oatmeal flour instead of dry exfoliator. It is available at most heath food stores or you can make your own like Charlotte suggested.

      • Thank you! I don’t mind indulging in luxurious beauty products and will check this company out, but if I’m going to take the time to DIY, I want to really DIY!

      • Thank you for sharing this recipe, Charlotte – love it!
