ColOmbian-born skin sorceress, Tata Harper, grew up crafting natural beauty solutions with her grandmother. They even hosted DIY “spa parties” together on Sunday evenings. Today, Harper is the beauty pioneer behind one of the most loved natural skincare brands on the market. The same true to the root feelings still emanate from the brand whose Vermont farm-based headquarters were one of the first things that drew us to Tata Harper years ago (see our 2012 feature!).

From the brand’s signature green glass packaging to the meticulously pure and efficacious contents within, Tata represents everything we love about the wellness luxury space. Her newly launched moisturizer is a sustainable packaging marvel — we’re so thrilled to see more beauty brands embrace this!

Following along for a day in the life with Tata Harper below. Her vision of wellness includes a simple but epic avocado toast recipe, an ambitious habit of drinking three gallons of water a day, and teaching her kiddos about reducing plastic waste…

My alarm is set for…

My alarm is never consistent since I travel so much. On weekdays, I average between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. so I can do meditations, but it varies. On weekends, I really value my beauty sleep, since I don’t get it during the week. Getting enough sleep is an essential part of having healthy skin and overall wellness. I’ll wake up between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. usually — whenever my body is ready.

I get my creative juices flowing by…

My morning shower definitely gets the creative juices flowing. I also love to start the day with relaxing classical music – piano or violin playlists on my drive to the office.

Favorite morning beverage is…

I typically start my day with supplements and two or three glasses of water. I also drink tea most mornings. I recently received some Rishi Ancient organic Pu-erh Tea as a gift. I really love it because it’s very sweet, and I have a big sweet tooth.

I can’t start my morning without…

Meditation and a big breakfast!

Breakfast is normally…

I’m a firm believer that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so I eat a rounded, full breakfast usually. Recently, I’ve been loving chia pudding with berries, hemp and sunflower seeds, and a berry or a green smoothie.

Daily uniform this spring…

Bright, fun colors and patterns are in my spring wardrobe. Ulla Johnson, SEA, Khaite, are a few designers I am loving right now.

My favorite moment in the morning is…

A hot shower! I love taking a shower first thing, it really wakes me up and gives me a few minutes to myself before conquering the day. I do love a soothing candle-lit bath at night to help me wind down from the day as well.

On the best mornings, I…

Get to snuggle and spend time with my three cubs (kids). Also, on the best mornings I am able to spend 10 – 15 minutes stretching, it makes such a difference in how I carry myself.

I start working by…

One of the first things I do when I wake up is check my emails. It’s such a faux pas, it goes against everything I’ve read, but I can’t help it. I like to take care of a lot of priorities in the morning and any urgencies that have transpired while I’ve been sleeping.

Morning are normally filled with…

Meetings! Due to how often I travel, when I am in Vermont I get to the office by 8:30 a.m. and my mornings typically consist of meetings with R&D, product development, wholesale, creative, etc. I tend to have those meetings first thing and try to make sure that any major decisions happen while I’m in Vermont.

I’m usually listening to…

I love so many different types of music based on my mood. There is always a playlist in the background at home. My current playlist includes Coorina Smith, Robin Schulz, Kygo, Fleetwood Mac, Satin Jackets and George Winston – quite an eclectic mix!

The recipe I’m making:

I recently traveled to Mii Amo Wellness Resort in Sedona, Arizona. Their avocado toast was the best I’ve ever had and I’ve been eating it almost every day since: multi-grain toast, tiny bit of honey sprinkled on the bread, mashed avocado, fresh goat cheese and a sunny side up egg. Simple, but very flavorful and delicious.

My favorite morning distraction…

Probably my love of podcasts – I listen to Fat Mascara podcast and On Being podcast in the a.m. as I get dressed.

Healthiest daily habit…

To drink approximately three gallons of water a day.

I’m most obsessed with this currently…

My New Year’s resolution: reduce single-use plastics from my life. This is something my kids and I are all working on together. It’s very important to me that I teach them the importance of this.

Always thinking about lunch at…

The BBQ lunch at Blackberry Farms. Everything they make in their smoker is fabulous. It’s such a fun experience and is the best BBQ I’ve ever had. I’m always craving it!

My current mantra:

Overcome your fears. Whatever you fear, do it. Be open to trying new things and things that scare you.

This interview with Tata first ran in 2018, but our love for the brand still runs strong and we wanted to spotlight it one more time!

  3. Love the morning meditation start. Completely changes the day for the better. If you are a mom, sometimes the early mornings are the only time when you have a spot of time for yourself!
