kirsten Kjaer Weis

If we were stranded on a desert island, a capsule beauty collection made up of Kjaer Weis’ non-toxic cream blushes, lip stains and eye shadows would be on our short list. The stunning (refillable!) packaging would provide a dose of luxury; and the colors are perfect for looking nearly-natural gorgeous — and yes, that’s all essential for desert island life…

This green beauty cult fave is the creation of Danish-born, New York raised makeup artist, Kirsten Kjaer Weis. After spending years working on models whose skin would react to mainstream makeup on set every day, Kirsten created her own line of clean, organic cosmetics, setting a new standard for sustainability and chicness that few others have reached.

A Green Goddess in her own right, we asked Kirsten to partake in one of our fave beauty series (explore the whole collection here!). We’re loving her minimalist makeup routine, her simple yet powerful skincare secrets and a Freeze obsession we can relate to. Pick up a few gorgeous products at The Detox Market, and get into the rest below…

Can’t travel without…

My Bose headphones. When I travel I like to block out all noise and go inward. These allow me to fully relax.

In a pinch I…

Will make myself look refreshed if I feel tired by adding a cream blush to the apples of my cheeks. I love a rosy-hued shade like Blossoming Cream Blush.

Always in my evening clutch:

A credit card and some type of lip product.

Obsession of the moment:

Pressed Juicery’s Freeze. I know that I’m going to be eating it all summer. It’s a great treat for when you’re craving ice cream. I’m obsessed!

Beautifying snack:

A piece of organic dark chocolate for the sole purpose that it makes me happy.

Beautifying drink:

Green juice. I definitely see a difference in my skin when I drink green juice on a daily basis.

For ultra-glamorous effect:

Line your waterline with a black eye pencil to enhance a smoky eye.

Perfect pout:

I’m a nude lip girl. It’s between our Honor Lipstick or Dream State Lip Tint.

Beauty tool:

Weirdest beauty habit:

I’m a huge fan of Frownies facial patches. Totally old school but they work.

In the shower I keep…

On my bedside table…

I always keep a book. Currently I’m reading The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion.

Once a month I…

I like to get a facial with Gilah Gurovitsch. She is the absolute best.

After a long night or rough weekend…

I try to juice as much as possible.

On little sleep I rely on…

Lots of water and then I make sure to go to bed early the following night.

The product that changed my skin…

Our new facial oil, The Beautiful Oil.

Most treasured beauty tip…

My mom’s minimalist approach, which is to always treat people with kindness.

For glowing skin…

Healthy diet is key. Drink lots of water and keep makeup minimal — that means little to no powder.

My go-to smoothie recipe:

Coconut water, berries and half of a frozen banana. So simple, but so good.

  1. Oil is terrible for your skin. It creates a ‘plastic bag’ effect and will cause your skin to pre-maturing age.
