DISCOVERING THE PERFECT lipstick is like finding your soulmate; it just makes everything that much better. Of course, the hunt can be just as hard. Sheena Yaitanes created Kosas on a simple mission for more flattering colors that elevate our everyday looks. Her formulas are nourishing and natural — made with botanical ingredients — and the packaging is a chic as can be. Sounds like soulmate material to us.

The Kosas name comes from the philosophy of the five interconnected layers of the self: the physical, energetic, mental, intellectual, and soul. A bit much for a beauty brand? Not once you give one of these sexy highlighting combos a go or swipe on a non-toxic lip color that lasts all day.

We love the modern, minimalist and non-toxic vibe of Kosas. We asked Sheena to join our Green Goddess Guide series to share the best beauty insights she’s got with us…

If I only have 5 minutes to get ready, I…

I fill in my brows so they’re nice and bold, and throw on a bright lip like Thrillest. It takes even less than five minutes.

Beauty obsession of the moment:

Beautifying snack/meal:

Greek yogurt with goji berries.

Beautifying drink:

Water with plenty of lemon and a pinch of pink salt.

Can’t travel without…

My own hairdryer.

Best beauty tip I ever learned backstage or on a shoot:

Don’t put blush near your nose.

For ultra-glamorous effect:

Smokey cat-eye.

Products I rely on for lips:

All eight shades of Kosas lipstick, so I can choose with my mood.

Beauty tool I can’t live without:

Spoolie for the brows.

Weirdest beauty habit:

Blotting oil with toilet seat covers.

Always in my evening clutch:

Whichever Kosas lipstick and blush/highlighter duo I have on that night.

In the shower I keep…

Two to three different types of cleanser (oil, normal, charcoal bar soap).

After a long night or rough weekend…

I hit the Korean spa for a full-body scrub and some time in the charcoal sauna.

The product that changed my skin…

Retinol.

My go-to DIY recipe or smoothie recipe:

Kale, spinach, parsley, strawberry, blueberry, banana, coconut water.

  2. She’s so right about the spoolie for the brows… sometimes it’s the low-tech tools and products that make the biggest difference.
