Going local has never been more fun. Especially in Los Angeles. The explosion of homegrown artisans and small, locally-curated shops here in L.A. has the whole city in a local-loving frenzy. While we love our exotic imports and all the micro-loan-related goods that give back, there’s also something so special about buying what’s made in your own backyard.

Ellen Bennett with her well-constructed, sturdy, but stylish aprons, is one of our favorite L.A. artisans of late – and we’re not alone. Made right here in L.A., Hedley & Bennett is the apron of choice found in many top kitchens around the foodie-sphere. Such celebrated chefs as Nancy Silverton, David Chang, and Nobu Matsuhisa are part of the Hedley & Bennett “Apron Squad.” We’re happy to announce that, starting this month,  a few lucky Pressed Juicery employees will be added to that apron-donning list.

Inside Pressed Juicery Santa Monica and Pressed Juicery Studio City, employees will now be rocking Hedley & Bennett’s signature aprons as they juggle juice and dole out favorite flavors. We love this combo of two classic, L.A.-rooted companies and urge you to check it out for yourself!

Let us know what L.A. artisans you’re loving lately for a chance to win a Hedley & Bennett apron of your very own! Here’s the woman behind all of this stylish tidiness herself, Ellen Bennett, with a little more about the aprons and to tell us what living well in L.A. is all about…

The apron maker: Ellen Bennett of Hedley & Bennett

Apron Name: the Michael Grey

About this apron: Named after our mentor, idol and chef Michael Cimarusti of Providence Restaurant in Los Angeles, this apron is in his complete honor, simple, humble and perfect. It’s made of American brushed canvas with one chest pocket and two lap pockets, brass hardware and cotton straps.

I’m usually grabbing juice… before I run into the office for a crazy day filled with meetings. I love buying 3 or 4 to just stick on my desk and knowing I’ll get plenty of protein and vitamins. They practically replace water for me sometimes. I also grab juice after lunch as an afternoon snack around 3 or 4. It holds me over for a few hours and is practically like a desert!

Healthiest habit: My love for running and doing sporadic marathons

Apron you wear at home: the Ivy

3 other L.A. businesses YOu love: Heath Ceramics, Broome St General Store, Mohawk General Store, Dinosaur Coffee, and Guisados

Current motto: I have like four that I live and die by…

Leap while looking.  Just do it and figure it out along the way!

If you can’t get in through the front door, climb in through the window.  There’s always a way to make it happen- period!

Strive to astonish.

Wake up and fight.  We are all so fortunate and lucky to be here every day and be healthy and alive that no second should be wasted and you should get up and get out there! Make things happen!
