It’s a rare occasion when beautiful design and sustainability go hand in hand, and Local + Lejos is doing just that, providing gorgeous modern handmade goods made by artisans around the world, that help to preserve cultural traditions, grow and empower small businesses, and create sustainable futures for their families.

Using a few of our Local + Lejos favorites we’ve created these three beautiful and simple holiday table settings to try at home. If there was ever a time to deck out the table, Christmas is the occasion! Here are three looks we love using just the artisan goods, some seeded eucalyptus, a little twine and fresh winter fruit.

We used Local + Lejos’ hand block-printed linens from Jaipar, ceramics from Oaxaca, and woven trays and baskets from Rwanda by the Kwizera Cooperative. Each purchase made through Local + Lejos directly advances the progress in their artisan partners’ lives–while providing us with these one-of-a kind design pieces that tell a story from every corner of the globe.

Here are 3 DIY table settings to inspire and complete your holiday table…

THE FRUIT BOWL: A cloth napkin can also do double duty as the perfect placemat. We’ve paired one print in two colors for this setting. One print creates this diamond placemat, the angle nearest to our guest draping off the table. The other is folded into a perfect square beneath a ceramic mug used later for coffee or tea. Throw in a pomegranate or pear for the perfect “place card.” Use a metallic marker to draw guests’ names straight on to the fruit.

ALL TIED UP:  Simplicity is key. Skip the placemats and simply roll a block-printed napkin to set on each plate. Tie with a strand of twine or ribbon. Tuck in a sprig of seeded eucalyptus or other greenery for a touch of seasonal elegance.

THE POM BOMB: Keep things straight-forward. We love this unfussy, but special look – a folded tea towel beneath the plate drapes beyond the edge of the table. A bright and seasonal pomegranate adds a charming pop of color.
