“California Cool” is not a reference to changing climate drama – it’s that effortless, mussed-yet-polished style that so many Left Coast beauties just seem to be born with. The style is an authentic product of California’s stunning natural environment, temperate weather and the resulting chill vibes.

Talented designer and Malibu native, Nikki Erwin, has nailed down what it means to be California chic with her new line of gorgeous, glam, but accessible handbags, Donatienne – equal parts functional and fashionable. We’re rummaging through her day bag (it’s a Jamie bucket bag from the new collection, of course) to find out how this young It designer is making it through the day…

My go-to spring bag:

My Jamie bucket bag in icy grey.

Accessory in tow:

Currently I have a bandana on my bag. Never know when you could use one!

Always drinking:

Pressed Juicery Aloe h2o.

3 on-the-go staples:

Lip balm, sunglasses, gum.

Where I'm headed at lunch:

I have about eight restaurants on rotation that I pretty much never stray from, including: La Scala, Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Joan’s and Sweetgreen.

Natural beauty products always on hand:

Keihl’s lotion and Thieves oil.

Fave paper goods:

A notepad in case designs come to me, and my biz cards.

Strangest thing in my bag:

I know it’s a lost art, but I always have a real camera on me at all times. An iPhone doesn’t cut it for me.

Healthy snacks I pack along:

Almonds. Raw almonds always come in handy if you reach that starving point and you’re on the go.

Wallet or other must-have:

My built-in key chain.

After work...

That’s my girl time, so I try and have dinner or a hang with my girls as often as I can – unless I have a Kings game to be at!
