‘All Year Round’, better known as AYR, is NYC-based and female-founded. Aiming to be the antidote to fast-fashion, AYR’s sustainable mission spot-on line of easy to wear women’s pieces has earned the love of famously-fashionable ladies like Karlie Kloss, Leandra Medine and Chrissy Teigen.

AYR’s creative director, Jac Cameron co-founded AYR with Max Bonbrest and Maggie Winter with the intention of creating a more functional label, one with runway-ready style standards suited for everyday wear – hence the name all year round. We fell in love with the brand straight away after a visit to their Abbot Kinney pop-up.

Follow along as Jac talks with us about all things style and sustainability for our fave fashion series, In Her Closet, including essentials for a clean look and the stylish grandmother inspiring her lately…

Currently wearing...

Currently wearing my AYR Supercool T-shirt and camel Robe, with tie-dye sweatpants from Raquel Allegra. Love a comfortable easy layering look most of the time.

My style in three words:

Clean, unfussy, layered.

Best tips for shopping sustainably:

The best advice I can give is to invest in pieces that will last. We purposefully structure the line with exceptional quality and craftsmanship in mind, so the lasting power of each piece is longer than what’s typically found in the market.

We create small runs of pieces and create a line that speaks to an edited approach to dressing – with more of a focus on “uniformal” dressing. The idea is to buy less and buy smart.

We work exceptionally closely with our mills and factories so we can manage each step in the process. I think knowing where and how things are made, and if they’re made with an ethical approach, is more important now than ever. Any company that creates clothing should be able to stand behind their production partners.

Recent inspirations:

I just finished Calvin Tomkins’ afternoon interviews with Marcel Duchamp – a great insight into his thinking on life.

My style icons:

Tilda Swinton, my friends, my co-founders, Kate Moss circa early 2000s, my mother. Our ultimate muse at AYR is my co-founder’s granny who is 83. We shoot her for our campaigns and she never fails to bring an element of flair to the poses.

Go-to uniform/signature look:

With the exception of vintage, I’m almost always head-to-toe AYR. Hi-Rise Skinnies, black T-shirt tucked in with a belt is my uniform for life. I love a great outerwear piece, as it’s the perfect finishing accent to any outfit. My current obsession is our pinstripe coat in wool/cashmere, we called it the Big Deal, and it is!

Fave natural/eco materials…

We have worked with linen since the beginning of the brand and have partnered with a family-run mill based in Ireland called Baird McNutt. They produce the most incredible linen and specialize in creating and designing linen in every iteration. Linen is breathable and has great drape and bounce. I’ve worked with this fabric across a range of silhouettes from shirts, to dresses and pants. Linen is one of the most biodegradable fabrics that exists and is made from flax plant fibers.

My mission in one sentence...

Work smart and be good to people.

Something in my closet I'll own forever...

A pair of vintage Wranglers I bought as a student at Beyond Retro in Shoreditch London. The previous owner had altered the leg shape on a home sewing machine. I have always had a profound love for vintage and the life each piece has lived prior to my finding them.

Style / design trend I'm most excited about...

Straight-leg high-rise jeans! We are just about to launch a jean called the Bomb Pop – it’s the most comfortable and a flattering bright shade of indigo. A pair I’m going to live in!

Trend I'm excited to see go...

Ugly sneakers.

Most essential accessory (and how to rock it)...

I’ve been wearing my Alex Wang bum bag for months and I love it! Slung cross-body is my preferred way to wear it. I can’t do shoulder bags and have always opted for a cross-body bag, which helps my posture immensely.

Look that will never go out of style...

An incredible tailored coat with a great jean.

Fave sustainable brands/ designers or resources:

I follow Max La Manna, a zero-waste chef who creates plant-based meals and has a huge focus on living in alignment with our Earth. He gives me everyday reminders of how to make a balanced meal using every ingredient to its fullest. I love Parachute Home, their bedding is the most comfortable I have ever slept on! They design everything in Venice Beach and manufacture responsibly across Europe using ethically sourced materials.

Current Mantra:

If not now, when?
