How “basic” are you? But, really. Alkalinity is a hot topic in alternative health. Many wellness pros believe that keeping our body’s pH balanced – through mood, food, fitness and self-care – is key to vibrant and enduring well-being. Apparently, disease thrives in an acidic environment, but can’t live when pH is maintained at a neutral level.

The quiz below from Food Matters will give you a gauge on your own alkalinity and pH balance. Take the quiz and make the suggested adjustments…

If you want to dramatically improve your energy, get the body you’ve always wanted, say goodbye to inflammation and bring the aging process to a halt, then choosing alkalizing foods could help get you there.

The typical American diet is acidogenic, consisting of foods that have an acidifying effect on the body. Chronic over-acidity removes oxygen from the blood and can result in lowered immunity and premature aging.

The alkaline approach to health is all about eating and drinking things that will have an alkaline-forming, rather than an acid-forming effect on the body. It’s often misunderstood that the alkaline approach is trying to change your pH, but it’s all about supporting your body and giving it the tools it needs to maintain its ideal pH of 7.365.

What’s The Best Way To Alkalize Your Body?

Human blood stays in a very narrow pH range around 7.35 – 7.45. When your body is bombarded with acid-forming foods, it has to rely on its own stores of nutrients to restore your blood pH so that it stays within this very strict limit. This can cause your bones to leach minerals or place more pressure on your kidneys and liver to maintain this balance.

The easiest way to nourish your blood, and in turn, nourish your body is by replacing acidic foods such as processed foods, sugar, caffeine, meat, and alcohol with more alkalizing, nutrient-rich, fresh produce! This helps the body to return to an alkaline state, rid itself of toxins, and allow the digestive system to rest and recuperate. Leaving your body feeling lighter, cleaner, and full of energy!

The alkaline approach to health is about eating and drinking those foods that will have an alkaline-forming, rather than an acid-forming effect on the body. Incorporating green leafy vegetables and green powders into your diet is a great way to alkalize your body, fast!

Take our quiz below to find out whether your current lifestyle choices are making you acidic or alkaline.

  1. This is hilariously vague and inaccurate. The results just told me that to increase my alkalinity, I needed to do nothing but things I’m already doing, all of which I had just told the quiz I was doing. Might want to refine this one.

  6. I thought it was very helpful. I didn’t realize I was on such an acid diet. I always grab something quick. Some doughnuts and coffee for Breakfast, hotdogs or baloney for lunch, hamburgers for supper. The complete opposite of what I used to eat back home on the farm.

  7. Make sure to read your ph number in the green box before scrolling down. Otherwise, because of confusing wording, it looks like your score is the first listed. Your score is a precise number, not the range. You’re supposed to find what range your precise score is in, then read that paragraph. Mine is 40.35%, meaning I’m in the “average” alkalinity range. Hope that helps:)

  8. A omish guy told me they put one teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water and drink it 30 minutes before eating, they do this 3 times a day, they do not have any health problems. Cancer begins at the PH of 5.8. Baking soda has a PH of 9.0

  9. Also, if you have cancer, stay away from meats, sugars and dairy, they help cancer grow. Drink vegetable juices, eat plenty of raw vegetables. Stay away from any sugar sweets and chocolate

  10. This test didn’t add up for me. My score was 51% and the suggestions that it gave me, I already do:
    AVERAGE ALKALINITY
    Your score: 34%-66%
+ Stay hydrated by increasing your water intake (I drink 8+ glasses of H20/day)
+ Increase your intake of leafy green foods, green smoothies, green juices and green powders with most meals and try adding a green smoothie or green superfood powders (I eat lots of leafy greens each day, drink green juices a few times a week and add Hemp powder to smoothies)
+ Reduce stress and practice deep breathing exercises (I meditate approx. 3x/wk and do deep breathing at least 3x/wk)
+ Reduce out acid-forming foods such as sugar, gluten, processed meats and soda (I eat a zero sugar diet, no maple syrup, honey or agave either – only berries, 1/2 banana per day, and 2 dried apricots per day – that’s my sugar)

  11. Oh, please!!! I expect better from Chalkboard than this pseudo-scientific claptrap! Your “body”, if you are healthy, is neither acidic nor alkaline. Rather, different systems within the body have different pHs, depending on their function. If you are a woman, you better hope your vaginal tract is on the acidic side, likewise your skin and your stomach. Your blood, OTH, is slightly alkaline. And the so-called “alkaline” diet does NOT make the “body” more alkaline. Rather, it works to make people feel better because it has them eating more veggies and fruit, giving them more fiber, B vitamins, vitamin C, etc. BTW, some foods that have been traditionally listed on this hokey diet as “acid-forming”, like milk, actually left an alkaline residue upon digestion, once it was measured in a laboratory, rather than having some self-styled diet guru give his/her uninformed opinion.

  12. I’m impressed, I must say. Seldom do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and amusing, and let me tell you,
you’ve hit the nail on the head. The issue is an issue that too few folks are speaking intelligently about.

Now i’m very happy that I came across this in my search
    for something regarding this.

  13. I am vegan, I meditate, I don’t drink alcohol and rarely drink coffee—and my urine PH was tested recently at more than 9. Am I TOO alkaline? If so, should I like drink cranberry juice?

  14. low alkalinity? i’m vegan and my diet is fruits and vegetables for every meal. inaccurate
