Women of Bangladesh: Development Through Savings

Earlier this year, The Chalkboard shared this story about women’s business groups in Bangladesh.  Through their Women In Action program, Food for the Hungry enables many women to develop skills and save funds for their families in a culture where this opportunity is not often offered because of gender inequalities.

Recently, Women In Action released this video about their work in Bangladesh and the beautiful communities of women that they serve there.

We love the moment where one mother shares the effect her hard work is having upon her teenaged daughter. Normally, an arranged marriage would be this young woman’s only hope for a prosperous future, but because of the skills that both she and her mother are learning, the family feels hopeful about what the girl’s future no matter what choices she should make.

  1. Brilliant! So exciting and inspiring. Education is so important, especially to women like these, who are so restricted from eductation, yet have the potential to transform communities from the inside of the family, outward to the community.
