After spending hours on healthy foodie blog, Nutrition Stripped, mesmerized by photo after photo of amazing-looking green smoothies and other nutrient-dense recipes, we decided we had to know just what makes McKel Hill, the genius behind this yummy health blog, tick.

It turns out McKel is not only a registered dietician, but a health and wellness coach with a Masters in Clinical Nutrition. McKel is a woman on a plant-based mission – with a focus on delivering the real deal nutrition info and debunking conventional nutrition myths McKel transcends our ideas of what a recipe-blogger is all about. Her reputation for individualistic and holistic approach to coaching her actual clients into optimal health meant we couldn’t wait to dive in to this healthy super-coach and green smoothie connoisseur’s notes to see what we could glean from all her nutritional genius.

My daily supplements:

Probiotics (gotta keep a healthy gut), multivitamin on occasion, and plant-based protein powders centered around my workouts.

Can't live without my:

Vitamix and Blendtec blender.

Daily breakfast:

Stripped green smoothie with a straw or even in a bowl – it’s super thick, like ice cream!

5 things always in my medicine cabinet:

Ginger tea, oil of oregano, heating pad, magnesium, and more tea!

Fave workout:

Weight lifting, hot yoga and boxing.

Once a week for my health I:

Have a sauna session with an extra-long meditation.

On tap: how do you drink water?

Filtered. If I am on the go, in a BPA-free bottle.

Best fast food option:

Doesn’t exist in my book, plan ahead.

Best healthy restaurant tip:

Start your meal with veggies like a big raw salad. Order everything the way you want it – you’re paying after all!

At least once a week I cook:

My citrus quinoa pilaf stuffed in acorn squash. It’s filling and delish.

If I could give just one piece of health advice it would be...

Be your own health advocate.

Reading list:

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle and The Hormone Cure by Sara Gottfried MD.

Go-to health resources:

Examine.com and my library shelf at home.

Crazy health idea that actually works:

Green smoothies! They’re full of nutrients, fiber and a great way to support natural detoxification.

My food philosophy in one sentence:

Eat whole, real foods – more plants, and no ingredients you cannot pronounce.

Non-negotiable:

Tea!

Simplest way to improve health:

Eat more plant-based foods, limit processed foods, manage stress, and live happy!

Fave healthy getaway:

A spa coupled with more juices than normal, and days centered around relaxing.

My current mantra:

“Lose your mind, and come to your senses,” a word on present momentness.

My health passion:

Coaching my clients to better health, sharing my passions through teaching, and my blog, Nutrition Stripped.

Health trend to skip:

Any pill that is a “detox” – our bodies are smarter than this.

My go-to juice or smoothie:

Like I said, it’s definitely got to be my Stripped green smoothie! I have one every morning post-workout and I add a bunch of goodies to refuel my muscles, and keep me energized and feeling great.
