Sophia Bush

As a poster child for confidence and care-free living, we loved hearing former Guest Editor and overall balanced babe, Sophia Bush, chime in the topics of confidence, success, risk and failure on social media recently.

Dealing with the risk of failure is something all of us deal with, and those in the spotlight of celebrity are certainly not immune.

The actress recently discussed the topic on Instagram, after an attendee at a panel she spoke on asked Sophia when she’d reached the point where her confidence outweighed her fears. We loved Sophia’s response:

“That whole “get past x and you’ll be onto y” thing?
It doesn’t exist. No matter what you achieve, you’ll set a new goal that will be out in the distance.
You will never “arrive.” No matter how much success you have — or in many cases the world perceives
you to have had — it comes with a shit ton of failure too. But you definitely miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

So how does one deal with fear and still navigate life and career successfully? Sophia suggests keeping all the big feels close and using them as fuel…

“The fear won’t magically subside.
You’ve got to pick it up and carry it in your pack with you. Roll it up next to your ambition and your tenacity. Tuck it in with the confident thread that runs up your spine. Right next to your big idea. Your big love.
It’s part of you. The sooner you make yourself acquainted with it and quit trying to pretend like it’s not there, the sooner it becomes just another piece of you instead of a larger than life monster in your closet.”

How does Sophia’s advice resonate with you? What tools do you use to push past your own fears? Share your stories in the comments section!

  1. I love this! Sophia has always been an inspiration of mine. She’s spot on about never fully achieving our potential – we’re fluidly moving from one goal or one chapter of our lives to the next. I’ve learned to embrace not necessarily knowing what is to come, but having faith in the process while continually striving for new heights. One thing always leads to the next! I also resonate with her concept of fear. It’s such a delicate balance between simply being mindful of it (but not taking an action) and using fear as a catalyst to make changes.

  3. I love this too!!! I am a mom of two teenage guys, one in college on a junior in high school . I believe this is an invaluable lesson of accepting your fears and moving on. Also doesn’t hurt that is Sophia Bush presenting it… she is super cool.
