The best jobs are the ones that enrich our lives outside of the office, and we’re not just talking about all those top-shelf organic snacks our paycheck helps us accrue. It’s about gaining new skills and perspectives that help us grow, give and live better.

We’re inspired everyday as we serve up that Chalkboard life surrounded by the contributors, readers and brands we love most. It’s an exciting time in the wellness space and we value individuals like our June Guest, Jason Wachob, who are helping to keep our community in balance. We’ve loved bringing you this new author and mindbodygreen boss man’s insights this month and we’re wrapping things up with Jason’s lessons learned below. Jason’s ten verbs come straight from his book, WELLTH, a must read for anyone struggling to keep life’s ambitions and values in balance (that’d be all of us!)…

Eat

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to diet, but stick to eating mostly vegetables and cut down on processed food and sugar.

Move

Find a movement practice that you love. If you don’t love it, don’t do it. The best exercise is the one you actually do!

Work

Working hard will get you very far, but the magic happens when you’re able to match hard work with a deeper spiritual awareness about the “why.”

Believe

No matter how terrible things seem, we must believe that God/The Universe has our back. Easy to say, but hard to do. It’s something we all struggle with, but it’s so important for our sanity.

Breathe

The mind/body connection is more powerful than you think. In fact, I believe that the mind wags the body, not the other way around. I’ve found meditation is invaluable for managing stress.

Feel

Emotional support and connection is vital to our wellbeing. I believe we’re a combination of the five people we spend the most time with. It’s always good to do a personal inventory check there: Are the people around you inspiring you or tiring you?

Love

I believe there are two types of romantic soul mates: those who temporarily help us along our life journeys and who teach us important lessons; and our “forever” soul mate, who stays the course. I also believe in non-romantic soul mates, which are abundant in our lives.

Heal

Don’t let your doctors dictate your destiny. I love doctors and they save lives but if something seems off with a diagnosis, don’t hesitate to get a second opinion.

Thank

I am a huge believe in the power of a gratitude practice. I wake every morning and repeat the words “thank you” over and over silently. As my friend the artist Peter Tunney says, “Grattitude is the attitude,” and he spells it with two Ts!

Ground

Grounding, the process of walking barefoot and sinking your feet into the sand or ground, is an awesome healing practice! Connecting with the earth’s electrons has some awesome physiological benefits! I’d never thought I’d say that as a native New Yorker!
