Marlien Rentmeester wears many hats: mom, west coast editor of Lucky magazine, Le Catch blogger and a food lover with a real knack for elegant entertaining, all without breaking a sweat. Whether she’s whipping up some delicious appetizers (perfect for a holiday party or a NYE fete) or just stocking her chalkboard-painted fridge with goodies from the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market, this editor extraordinaire infuses everything she does with her signature mix of style and ease. Like building the perfect outfit on her addictive blog Le Catch, her kitchen style is all about the details—crisp wine, fresh flowers and unfussy food served on her supremely sophisticated heirloom china and silver serving platters.

Entertaining go-to: Trout dip from Santa Monica Seafood, hummus and cheeses from Farmshop, bread from Huckleberry and wine from the Wineshop.

Dinner on a busy night: Whole Foods takeout. Or cherry tomatoes from our garden tossed with feta cheese and olive oil.

Quick breakfast: Fruit, yogurt and honey

Changes in diet if you’re gearing up for a big event or vacation: Less bread and small, early dinners.

Usual workout: A four mile daily run.

Necessary indulgence: Wine, bread and cheese (in that order).

Favorite recipe: Kale salad from my friend Annie, which I posted on my blog here!

Favorite cookbook: Gwyneth Paltrow’s My Father’s Daughter, Barefoot Contessa Family Style (I had a summer job at Barefoot Contessa in the Hamptons as a teenager. Needless to say, I ate my salary away!) and Lulu Powers Food to Flowers.

Kitchen gadget: Ice cream scooper. My 6-year-old has a monopoly on it right now.

Pantry essential: Really good extra virgin olive oil.

Ingredient that makes everything taste better: Salt.

Your dream meal: In the Mediterranean, on the beach, caked with saltwater and in a semi-dry bathing suit, eating caprese salad, fried calamari, pasta and drinking rose with my husband and best friends.

Today’s Recipe: Avocado on rice crackers, excerpted from Goop!
