In My Gym Bag: Printed Leggings + Coconut Water With A Miami Pro

We’re all about this Miami beauty’s fitness inspiration and approach for the new year! Idalis Valazques, founder of IV Fitness and creator of the PowerUP60, keeps things so real, training  her clients based on what works for their own unique bodies and lifestyle needs vs the tired one size fits all approach.

This month, Idalis has joined with The People’s Bootcamp creator, Adam Rosante, to create the C9 Champion Commit to Fit series – a 21-day workout featuring five videos to freshen up your routine by focusing on every part of your body. Each short video is designed to help us reinvigorate our fitness goals at home with little to no equipment – and in just fifteen minutes. Whether you’re reinstating your gym membership or figuring out which new yoga studio to join, start the new year off with at least one “no excuses” fail safe in place. We’re relying on a few C9 Champion Commit to Fit videos to help us fill in the gaps and stay motivated!

We asked Idalis to share a few insights with us based on her own fitspiration – after chatting with her, we can’t wait to follow along! From her favorite gear to the moment that transformed her fitness routine, find out what this pro can’t live without in her gym bag…

Name:

Idalis Velazquez

Most unexpected item in my gym bag:

My mini portable tripod. I like to provide my social media followers with sample workouts and new exercises whenever I can.

5 things always in my gym bag:

Dry shampoo, face wipes, mini bands, change of clothes, journal.

Moment I fell in love with fitness:

At a young age I fell in love with competitive sports, but it wasn’t until I faced a decline in my health during and after my second pregnancy that I fell in love with fitness – the beauty that came with training not to compete or be a specific size, but to be at my healthiest, strongest and once again feel amazing in my body!

Habit that changed my practice:

Focusing on adding small and sustainable positive habits into my daily routine, and dropping the “all or nothing mentality” in both my nutrition and workout routines. When I started focusing on the things I can add, whether it’s drinking more water, eating more greens or taking my natural supplements, instead of focusing on “what I’m not supposed to do,” I became more consistent with my nutrition and found my balance! I also learned how to listen to my body and enjoy the process more.

Fave C9 gear:

C9 Champion women’s performance leggings! I love all the different prints, the fit and how comfortable they feel during my workouts. They are stylish and highly functional.

Favorite time of day to fit in fitness:

Afternoons. That’s when I feel the most energized and when I can make the time since my mornings can be hectic. I also love to end my days on a strong note and leave the session feeling more balanced.

When I can’t make it to the gym, I:

Since I have a home gym I prefer to work out from home most days. My biggest challenge is when I have a busy schedule, feel tired or when I’m traveling. I downloaded an interval app on my phone and have several time-efficient workouts using bodyweight exercises that help me get my sweat on anywhere, anytime.

Braids or pony:

I love braids!

Favorite way to hydrate:

Water, raw natural coconut water, and adding NUUN electrolytes-enhanced tablets in my water to replenish electrolytes and stay hydrated.

I stay inspired by:

Visualizing my goals, serving others and by spending quality time with my family. My little girls remind me how to live in the moment and inspire me to strive to be my best at what I do daily. They show me there is a bigger purpose in what I do because I know there is a big chance they will imitate my behaviors. If I want them to become healthy, confident and kind-hearted women who go after their goals, it all starts with me.

Whenever I feel uninspired I disconnect to quiet the outside “noise” and find clarity by either spending time alone or spending extra quality time with my family. My husband and girls help me stay centered, grounded and focused on my goals and what truly matters in life.

In my earbuds:

My current faves are “Do Something With It” by Empire Cast & Serayah; “Ex’s & Oh’s” by Elle King; and “Stitches” by Shawn Mendes.

Most effective/fave move in the Commit to Fit video series:

I have two!

The Kettlebell halo and goblet squat combo from the Total Body 2 series: This move combines the KB Halo, which increases shoulder and thoracic mobility while strengthening and sculpting the shoulders, triceps, back and core; and the Goblet Squat which targets the legs, glutes and also the abs. It provides a full body workout, burns a lot of calories and it strengthens the mind-body connection since it requires concentration to perform this exercise.

Plank jacks with shoulder taps from the ABS series: This is a non-equipment exercise that targets and challenges the entire midsection, shoulders and arms while getting your heart rate up. It’s a super fun move that will challenge and fire up the abs.

Craziest gear I own:

Pink Kettlebells. They look a bit corny but they are made of iron and are heavier than they look.

On my feet:

Brooks Glycerin 13 for running, New Balance 811 for cross training.

Must-have workout tool:

Kettlebells. They provide me and my clients a full-body balanced workout in half the time.

To stay organized on the go:

I plan ahead and keep my to-do list updated, prioritizing my must-do’s.

Post-workout smoothie or snack you love:

An energizing superfood protein shake. It aids my recovery process and provides my body with high quality nutrients, antioxidants, healthy fats and also has anti-inflammatory properties!
